Summary of the Profile of study programme

General Description: Objective(s) of a study programme: To develop a creatively thinking, responsible surveying specialist who is able to manage geodetic framework, to draw topographic plans, stake out reference points and markers that will guide the construction of new structures, verify the location of structures during construction, make the control geodetic measurements, to identify and clarify cadastral data of real objects, use, organize and update public spatial data sets, know how to set up a business enterprise, make independent decisions and seek for professional development.

Learning outcomes: On completion of the study programme the graduate will:
1. Apply the general mathematical, physical and engineering methods for understanding the fundamentals of the geodesy.
2. Have basic geodesy, cartography, cadastre, territorial planning knowledge relevant to practice.
3. Apply geodetic works principles, methodologies, legislation, the technical regulations and rules of Geodesy and Cartography and choose right software.
4. Apply analytical and modelling methods for solution geodesy, cartography, real estate cadastre tasks.
5. Apply engineering knowledge and understanding in formulating and performing designing tasks in accordance with requirements defined.
6. Understand designing methodologies and will be able to apply them.
7. Use the spatial data sets for preparation of geodetic, cartographic and cadastral practical projects or solving tasks.
8. Apply the methods of space geodesy to the practical research analytical works.
9. Identify cadastral data of real objects according to the laws provided to cadastre manager.
10. Renew, state and create special geodesy bases following the legislation regulating this work.
11. Create geodetic and topographic plans and data of georeference base cadastre using the legal and normative documents of the Republic of Lithuania regulating these works.
12. Apply geodetic methods for the investigation of constuction sites and engineering networks as well as the formation of a plan.
13. Tailor specialized technical and computer software for solving measurement engineering tasks.
14. Create spacial data sets using remote methods by analyzing and assessing data as well as making ortophotographic maps.
15. Model spatial surface using GIS, CAD technologies by performing data analysis.
16. Construct the data sets of real estate information systems by forming and evaluating real estate, also by performing data search, spatial data projecting and analysis following legal and normative documents of the Republic of Lithuania.
17. Use the knowledge of social and economic sciences, techniques in a variety of professional and social activities for obtaining the necessary information and its practical application for the improvement of professional skills, expansion of professional horizons; conduct applied research and building projects.
18. Provide and represent geodetic works in a variety of professional activities, audiences being able to reason one’s point of view.
19. Demonstrate independence in the presentation of their ideas, have and update their engineering skills.
20. Have knowledge of the key ethical principles and develop personal skills in professional career, manage and organize geodetic work.

Activities of teaching and learning: Explanation, seminar, discussion, case study, integrated self-studies, course projects, practical works, professional activity practices, applied researches, scientific literature analysis, articles.

Methods of assessment of learning achievements: Oral questionery, testing, observation of the practical work, discussion, observation of the projects, course and self-study work presentations.

Framework: Study subjects (modules), practical training: General subjects of study (15 credits): Foreign Language (English, Russian), Basics of Law, Social Psychology / Introduction of Philosophy, Professional Language.
Subjects of the study field (135 credits): Mathematics and Statistics, Physic, Geology, Information Technologies, Engineering Graphics, Basics of Economics, Business Economics, Human Safety, Basics of Geodesy, Topography, Geodesy, Survey Result Processing, Cadastral Measurements, Geodetic Equipment, Engineering Geodesy 1, Spatial Data, Basics of Construction and Underground Communications, Photogrammetry, Remote Research Methods, Cartography, Basics of Land Management and Real Estate Law, Cadastral Basics.
Practical Training (31 credits): Training Internship of Geodetic Measurements, Professional Internship of Digital Planning and Determining of Cadastral Data, Professional Internship of Engineering Geodesy and Cadastral Measurements, Professional Internship of Precision Geodetic Measurements, Final Professional Internship.
Professional Bachelor Thesis (12 credits).

Distinctive features of a study programme: Studies are student – centred, based on specific practical tasks, usage of latest technologies of geodetic instruments and specialized computer software; also based on teamwork, problem solving, basics of actual practical skills and research, promoting professional thinking, and rational application of theoretical knowledge in practice.

Access to professional activity or further study: Access to professional activity: After the acquisition of the qualification of geodesy engineer graduates can work as surveyors, geodesists, in various state institutions, land planning departments, State Land Fund departments, municipal urban planning departments, real estate agencies, individual enterprises, private limited companies, the activity area and nature of which are related with territory planning, geodetic, cadastral measurements, real estate formation, registration and evaluation, engineering, preparation of cartographic material for the implementation of different tasks, they can also set up their own business and workplaces for other people. Work in education, training and design public and private organisations, which are related to various forms of cartography work.

Access to further study: Graduates who have completed supplementary studies or requirements set by the higher school of education have the right to study upon the second cycle master's degree programme in Lithuanian or foreign universities.
