Summary of the Profile

General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
The goal of the Programme is to prepare highly qualified masters of social work who are able to conduct scientific research, critically analyze social issues, according to the changing society context. To foresee the risks of uncertain situations, to apply and develop innovative strategies, induce positive changes in the society through reduction of social exclusion and empowering individuals, groups and communities to participate actively in the process of problem solving. To organize effectively human, financial and other recourses as well as to organize social work process and provision of social services, encourage the development of the infrastructure of social services in order to seek for the most effective problem solving strategies in the national and European (International) context.
Learning outcomes:
- Students will be able to perform relevant quantitative and qualitative studies and expert analysis of social change;
- Students will promote the development of social infrastructure and services, to apply their research results in practice;
- Students will be able to develop and implement social problem prevention programmes;
- Students will be implement the social work problem-solving models through developing, reviving and maintaining individual and group abilities to independently address emerging problems;
- Students will be able to mobilize the resources available at individual, community or family levels in order to address their social problems.
- Students will be able train and initiate social services programmes in the community, institution or organization;
- Students will be able to build up a team of professionals working in an institution, company or organization;
- Students will be able analyse the effectiveness of aid provided; make proposals on company’s or organization’s service provision and quality improvement;
- Students will be able to initiate amendments for the legal documents, use in an integral manner the scientific knowledge and practical skills for improving and development of social services;
- Students will be developing and implementing qualitative socio-cultural projects, to assess the projects and analyze the results.
- Students will be able to continuously expand and assess their professional knowledge and skills;
- Students will be purposefully seek their education and career as well as analyze and apply innovations in their profession.
Activities of teaching and learning:
Lecture, seminar, individual and group tasks, discussion, mind mapping, case study, situation modelling, essay, projects, independent work, practical tasks, reflection, research
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
A criterial ten-point scale scheme is used for assessment. Cumulative assessment is used. The final grade is made of the grades of interim credits and grades of the examination. A subject teacher introduce students to the procedure and criteria for the assessment of the learning outcomes at the time of the first lecture or seminar. The process of social studies is based on a continuous reflection and self-evaluation which enable students to observe change in their competence achievement, critical thinking and reflective skills during the whole process of studies and that ensure a possibility for a learner to actively control own learning. Cumulative mark, qualitative and quantitative evaluation criteria, discussion of examination and pass/fail evaluations results with students and teachers ensure appropriate level of examinations and reliability of evaluations.

Study subjects (modules), practical training:
Subjects of the study field are divided into two groups: compulsory and optional. Compulsory courses: Social Security Law, Strategies for Social Services Provision and Managment, Theoretical Models of Social Work, Methodology of Social Research, Social Policy of European Union, Strategies of Sociocultural Work with Different Groups of Youth, Development and Evaluation of Social Projects, Master Thesis.
Optional courses compose alternatives: social work in community (Sociocultural education of community, E-health and management of social services, Practice of scientific research in social work) social work in migration offices (Sociology of migration, Institutional system of social well-being, Practice in migration services) and social work in probation system (Progressive alternatives for imprisonment, Institutional system of social well-being, Practice in correctional institution).

The academic qualifications allow for social workers to work in municipalities, in children protection service, to apply their scientific knowledge and experience in state, non-governmental and private social help and support structures and seek academic careers in higher education institutions and research institutions.
