Description

Object of activities: assessment of needs in social support, planning and rendering of the social services for clients (individuals, groups, families and communities), promotion of social change and solidarity, improvement of quality of life and empowerment of the client.
Typical work tools: computer-aided workplace and programs; equipment for printing, copying and scanning; cars or other tools for mobility and communication in the urban as well as in rural communities; adapted and standardized tools for assessment of client‘ situation.
Typical working conditions: indoors work or attendance of clients in their living surroundings. Working with people having needs in social services social workers are experiencing risk of negative influence of psychosocial and physical factors. Some activities of social worker require be active full day and night long.
Additional information: social work is regulating profession (Directive of European Parliament and Council 2005/36/EB). It means that performing of social work activities requires for the renderer of social services to acquire professional qualification. The space of profession of social worker is very sensitive to social and economic changes: Constantly the new social problems are appearing; international integration and globalization are important agents of social work changes. Social worker should to follow the principles of social fairness, social responsibility, human rights, values and ethics of social work. Activities of social worker are regulated by the Code of Ethics of Social Workers of Lithuania. Persons who have acquired profession of social work can work in different institutions rendering social services.
