Summary of the Profile

Objective(s) of a study programme:
To prepare social work specialists capable to critically evaluate and creatively apply research based, up-to-date social work knowledge in a complex changing environment in order to effectively address and solve social problems of a person and society.

Learning outcomes:
A holder of a Bachelor's degree in Social Work has capacity and skills to evaluate needs and situation of client and organize providing of social services; solve social problems of clients, to work with different kinds of clients (individuals, groups, institutions, communities), to manage casework, to organize social services, to understand and implement labor market policy, to introduce new strategies of social work, create social projects, programs, proposals for improvement of social policy.

Activities of teaching and learning:
Programme is based on the approach of research, flexible and active problem-based learning, it ensures integration and reflection of theory and practice. Lectures, seminars, and workshops in auditorium are combined with practice placements in social work organizations and assignments on virtual learning platform. Interdisciplinary teaching and learning, cooperative learning, and learning in practice are ensured. Methods of participatory, experiential, active and reflective learning are applied.

Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
The main form of evaluation is an examination. However, courses units may be evaluated by the pass/fail evaluation as well. Every course unit is concluded with either a written or written-oral examination or pass/fail evaluation. Student's knowledge and general performance during the exam are evaluated using grading scale from 1 (very poor) to 10 (excellent), or by pass or fail evaluation in the cases when pass/fail evaluation is foreseen as a final evaluation of the course unit.
Study subjects (modules), practical training:
General university study subjects: from fields of philosophy, psychology, sociology, anthropology, education, law etc.; basic subjects of social work field: social work theories, concepts, methods, mentoring and couching, basics of social and labor market policies, social work research, professional values and ethics etc.; special subjects of social work field: social work with families, young people, disabled, persons with mental disabilities and elderly, human rights, project management including social work practice. Professional practice placements are focused on the direct work with clients: introduction into life of organization, evaluating needs, planning, implementing and closing helping process, assessing outcomes. There are 640 hours assigned for practice placements.

Optional courses:
There are three optional choices:
- General programme, with not restricted choices within suggested electives: non-formal education, migration, psychiatry, developmental psychology, social psychology, social pedagogy, foreign social security etc.
- Minor studies (60 ECTS instead of electives), e.g. Scandinavian, History of culture and anthropology, Social policy, Sociology and other studies.
- specialization of youth work can be acquired by accomplishing courses assigned for this specialization, choosing practice placement in organizations working with young people, and themes of the course work and final thesis.

Access to professional activity:
Graduate may be able to organize and provide social services for persons of diverse social groups in agencies of social protection, education, health care, communities, non-profit organizations or establish social enterprises.
Access to further study:
Graduates of the Programme will be able to continue studies in Master degree programmes of Social work, Sociology, Criminology, Social policy or (or after completion of additional courses, if required) in Master degree programmes of law, anthropology, economics, management, public administration, education.
