General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
To train socially active, creative, critically minded social workers for practical professional work, able to apply the latest knowledge of social work, methods and to provide social services independently in a complex, changing, multicultural environment, based on the principles of social justice, ethics and assurance of human rights
Learning outcomes:
-Will apply theoretical knowledge, explaining the biopsychosocial human development and its interaction with the environment (at micro, mezo, macro levels), recognizing the social processes, their changes and their effects on human well-being.
-Will apply social work theories and methods based on empowerment, human rights, social justice, professional ethics and values.
-Will reveal the client‘s (person‘s, group‘s, organization‘s, community‘s) needs and strengths in planning, documenting, implementing and critically evaluating social support process and its results.
-Will demonstrate communication and cooperation skills in developing trust-based relationship with the clients, colleagues, representatives of other professions and their teams operating in a complex way in difficult situations in the field of social work.
-Will reflect, using a variety of personal cognition and professional development forms, when evaluating their practical activities, in accordance with the principles of lifelong learning.
-Will carry out practice-oriented empirical research addressing specific social problems, developing professional activities, introducing social work innovation.
-Will organize realizable social projects helping solve social problems in a creative way and promoting changes in society.

Activities of teaching and learning:
Assessment of study results is part of the study process. During training, the teachers use such methods as engaging lectures, mind / concept maps, problem solving, case studies, discussions, project preparation - presentation, individual or team tasks preparation - presentation, discussion of visual materials, experiential active methods. The students are encouraged to learn to collect, analyse, organize and communicate information, to work with databases, to explore the experience of foreign countries, to analyse situations, to design practical insights. In order to train a social service provider, a lot of attention is paid to mastering case management, case study methods. In order to develop students' self knowledge, professional identity there are used individual and group reflections, supervisions. Lecturer's relationship with students is based on trust, ability to motivate, promote creativity without fear of failures.

Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
In each subject module programme there are indicated learning outcomes, assessment grades and criteria. For student achievement assessment there is used cumulative assessment, consisting of interim tests (tests, seminars, student individual and group self-study work, projects). Therefore, the interim tests and examination tasks include not less than two-thirds of learning outcomes indicated in the subject study programme. Each subject is completed with the examination or project work presentation.
Framework:
Study subjects (modules), practical training:
The programme consists of 3 main groups of subjects: general college studies subjects, study field subjects and optional subjects, which consist of alternative optional subjects and set by the college free optional subjects.
General college studies subjects (15 ECTS): Introduction to Philosophy, Foreign Language, Professional Language and Documents` Management, Information Technologies. Study field subjects (135 ECTS): Human Rights, General and Personality Development Psychology, Social Psychology, Introduction to Social work, Social Gerontology and Palliative Care, Social work in Health Care System, Social Rehabilitation and Integration, Disabled People Inclusion and Lithuanian Sign Language, Theories and methods of Social work, Social Work Values and Ethics, Social Policy, Social Services, Sociology and Culture Anthropology, Social Research Methods, Crisis Intervention, Social Development, Community Focus and Empowerment.
Professional Practices (30 ECTS): Introductory Practice (3 ECTS), Social work Case Practice (6 ECTS), Social work in NGO Practice (6 ECTS), Social work in Community Practice (6 ECTS), Final Practice (9 ECTS). Final thesis` preparation (9 ECTS). Alternative Optional Subjects (21 ECTS): Child Welfare System (3 ECTS), Social work with Youth (6 ECTS), Social Services Development in Community (6 ECTS), Social Enterpreneurship (6 ECTS). Free optional subjects (9 ECTS).

Students are free to choose
9 credits. Students are free to choose free optional subjects from the list presented in Marijampolė College or to choose certain subjects at other higher education institutions.
Distinctive features of a study programme:
The social work study program prepares specialists who are able to identify and assess clients’ needs, the need for new social services in communities, engage in project activities, develop innovative services from planning to implementation. Graduates will be able to apply creatively and critically theories of social work and other social sciences, social work methods and innovations in order to empower people and make positive changes in the social life of individuals, groups, community, society. Will be able to properly represent the profession of social work, develop social well-being and strengthen the sustainable development of human being and the environment. The students have an opportunity to participate in the LLLP Erasmus + programme mobility activities. Students are given the opportunity to participate in volunteering activities in accordance with the chosen area of interest. The student can engage in student self-government structures, which organize various events and student holidays, and solve student problems. Students are encouraged by the creativity, so students can reveal themselves through a variety of creative techniques. It also encourages deeper self-knowledge.
Access to professional activity or further study:
Access to professional activity:
Students can practice in state and non-governmental social assistance institutions and organizations. During the practice, students have team supervision. Practical training focuses on the development of students' general and professional skills.
There are opportunities for practices in other counties according to Erasmus + programmer.

Access to further study:
Graduates can continue their studies at the second cycle of higher education (master's studies) in Lithuania and abroad. Students can improve their qualification update their knowledge at conferences, seminars and various duration training courses and so on.
