Summary of the Profile

General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
To educate an emergency medical aid paramedic who
is able independently and in a team, provide
emergency medical aid by applying medical
technologies for different age group individuals, assess
a patient‘s condition in acute situations and traumatic
injuries, recognize impaired vital signs and maintain
them, make decisions, recommend and participate in
organising preventive measures of diseases and health
disorders, ensure quality of the provided health care
services.
Learning outcomes:
1. Apply the knowledge about human anatomy,
fundamentals of physiology, pathological processes in
human organism, basic knowledge of medical
sciences, biology, social sciences in using modern medical and information technologies.
2. Independently and in a team determine, plan,
organise and implement health care services for
individuals in accordance to legal documents, acquired
theoretical knowledge and clinical skills.
3. Analyse the quality of health care aiming to
improve emergency medical aid practice by using
scientific sourses, national and international
documents regulating activities of the profession.
4. Independently and in a team control acute and
extreme situations on site of the accident by using
available human and material resources, information
technologies/communication means, organise
additional help providers.
5. Provide emergency medical aid directly on site or
remotely for patients of different age groups, cultures,
with special needs; within the limits of competences
give medical preparations and make professional
decisions, prepare patients for medical examinations
and procedures, choose appropriate measures, apply
the principles of work safety.
6. Communicate and collaborate with patients of
different age, cultures, with special needs and their
relatives, other specialists of health care sector and
additional help providers in solving issues of
professional activity in accordance with the principles
of professional ethics and citizenship, disseminate
professional experience, participate in vocational
training of health care personnel, consult within the
limits of professional competences.
7. Critically assess one‘s professional activity by
reflecting professional development, being aware of
the importance of life long learning.
Activities of teaching and learning:
Problem-solving assignments, literature analysis, mind
mapping, computerised assignments, demonstrations,
role playing games, case studies, projects, overview of
scientific articles, presentations, reports, information
search, analysis of scientific literature and internet
resources, methods of empirical research, selfassessment of performance
Methods of assessment of learning outcomes:
Cumulative assessment system is applied (interim
assessment, self-study assignment evaluation,
examination). Tests, preparation and presentation of a
case analysis, report on a video situation and its
presentation, observation of assignment performance,
practical assignment report, portfolio method, group project presentation, presentation of individual
assignments.

Knowledge and skills can be improved by choosing
optional courses from the list in the Moodle system.
Distinctive features of a study programme:
The studies are organized by integrating different
clinical subjects. Pre-clinical practical workshops take
place in simulation classrooms, the study of clinical
care are organized in the primary level practice
centers, secondary level hospitals and departments of
the tertiary level hospital, emergency medical
aid/ambulance stations. Students are offered the
possibility to go for studies or work experience to the
institutions of other countries on Erasmus programme.
Research skills are developed by carrying out
individual scientific research.
Perspectives to professional activity or further study: Access to professional activity:
Graduates after having gained the Professional
Bachelor‘s degree in Health sciences have a right to
work in Emergency Medical aid stations, hospitals,
other health care institutions, collaborate with other
team members of the health care sector.
Access to further study:
After graduating the first cycle college studies,
graduates are entitled to continue studies in the second
cycle study programmes in Health sciences. Graduates
can study for Master‘s degree in the programmes of
Rehabilitation, Nursing, Public Health, Public Health
Management, Complementary and Alternative
Medicine.
