Summary of the Profile

General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
This programme is prepared for the specialists, who already have the qualification of higher education, and work or are planning to work at secondary schools, but they don’t have the qualification of a teacher. The objective of the programme is to prepare the pedagogue, who has good knowledge of pedagogy, is able to apply his/her knowledge into his/her practical activity.
Learning outcomes:
Knowledge and Its Application:
* Knows and understands theories and conceptions of pedagogics science, applies them into educational process.
* Knows and is able to plan, organize and analyse the educational process of a concrete subject according to the requirements of general education curriculum programmes, teaching/learning, didactics and methodology peculiarities, teaching mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, information technologies, business and economy, music, history, professional, physical training, citizenship education, ethics, foreign languages, social pedagogy, Lithuanian language and technologies.
* Knows and is able to apply the methodology of action research and self-assessment.
* Knows and is able to apply knowledge of pedagogical psychology and didactics (including professional ethics awareness and compliance).
Research Skills:
* Is able to plan, carry out, analyse and evaluate the improvement of pedagogical activity, selecting and applying the proper research methods.
* Is able to reflect his/her experience, seeking to improve it, to prepare and present research report, give recommendations for activity improvement.
Subject-Specific Skills:
* Is able to apply successfully his/her knowledge, skills and abilities into concrete field of educational curriculum and context.
* Is able to prepare the programme for various purposes (learning subject and / or in-service teacher training), and modify it according to the needs of learners.
* Is able to evaluate achievements and progress of pupils (integrating quantitative and qualitative, formal and informal strategy of pupils achievements’ evaluation).
* Is able to motivate pupils and provide support for them (developing pupils’ ability of self-assessment and self-confidence, interesting them in the subject, helping them to solve the problems of learning).
* Is able to know pupils (identifying the special needs of pupils, providing additional support, assessing pupil‘s development, cognitive abilities, empathically identifying emotional difficulties of a pupil, accepting pupil‘s individuality as a value, to identify threats for a child‘s health and psycho-social development).
Social Skills:
* Is able to communicate in all educational environments in correct Lithuanian language (oral and written form), speak at least one foreign language and use it for professional purposes.
* Is able to develop citizenship and social competence.
* Is able perceive the processes of educational democracy and decentralization, creating public society, respecting pupils’ social, cultural, linguistic and ethnic identity.
* Is able to communicate, cooperate with a person, in a team or in networks of learning and partnership, knows the bases of etiquette.
Personal Skills:
* Is able to think creatively, systematically and critically, and can apply innovative solutions of activity, is able to learn and guide the principles of sustainable development.
* Is able to reflect obtained knowledge and experience, comparing them with one‘s value system and develop it.
* Understands the importance of life-long learning and is able to plan personal and professional development.
* Is able to find, select apply and reflect the newest information and use modern information technologies.
Activities of teaching and learning:
Material of the study module is gained both by activity in auditorium and individual work. Activity in auditorium includes lectures, group research and practical work. Individual work of a student is comprised by study of theoretical material, preparation for lectures, group research and practical work, midterms and exam. It also includes preparation of homework, projects and other activities.
Study programme is accomplished by final degree project of pedagogical studies.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Knowledge, abilities and skills, that the student will acquire during the course of the programme, are graded and registered to databases twice: during the evaluation of the student‘s independent work (positive or negative grade) and during the exam session (grade in ten-point scale).
The final degree project is defended in the public session of the studies’ branch qualification committee.
Framework:
Study subjects (modules), practical training:
The future graduates of this study programme study practice of pedagogue competence portfolio, general pedagogy, didactics, practice of curriculum planning and its realization, pedagogical and developmental psychology, and other subjects. In total, 8 subjects are studied in the programme.
The studies include the practice (30 credits) is performed in school, public and private organizations, and institutions.

Optional courses:
It is possible to choose the specialization or alternative subjects from the concrete group of subjects (6 ECTS).
Distinctive features of a study programme:
The graduate has knowledge in pedagogy, subject teaching and student cognition; is able to apply the knowledge in practice. The graduate is able to assess student achievements and progress, motivate and support students; she/he possesses intercultural, professional, general and special competences, and is able to demonstrate skills of action research and self-assessment.

The graduate can work as a pedagogue in the institutions of formal and informal education: in the Departments of Education, in all types of schools.

The graduate has access to the second cycle studies.
