Summary of the Profile of study programme

General Description: Objective(s) of the study programme: To prepare professional Bachelors of environmental engineering, who are able to develop and implement urbanized landscape design and reconstruction projects, to establish a business enterprise, to adapt creatively to the changes of labour market. Learning outcomes: The study programme graduate: 1. Will know and evaluate ornamental and garden plants by analysing their anatomy, morphology, systematics, bio-ecological peculiarities. 2. Will acquire fundamental knowledge on greenery, changes of nature process, their reasons and control. 3. Will be able to identify and analyse arising problems associated with the activity of selecting ornamental and garden flowers for green areas and their cultivation, by defining the ways and means of decision making. 4. Will be able to apply scientific achievements, modern research and analysis methods for collecting and interpreting data necessary to address scientific and practical issues related to landscape design. 5. Will be able to perform geodetic measurements, present them in plan, use special methodical, technical, and other measures in professional activity, apply acquired knowledge in practice 6. Will be able to perform an environmental impact assessment, design green areas and reconstruction projects, visualize the results and justify decisions in the digital scale. 7. Will be able to carry out projects related to urbanised territories landscape design in compliance with the ethnic, social and cultural context; will be able to communicate with specialists and community while solving landscaping issues and present outcomes of the activity in different languages. 8. Will be able to work in team to collect, analyse and interpret data to solve social, scientist and ethnic issues. 9. Will be able to search, analyse and interpret data received from practical observations, research, measurements and other information sources and present new approach and solutions. 10. Will take responsibility for the quality of professional activity in accordance with bioethics and citizenship and will develop analytical thinking, project approach and a sense of civil responsibility. Activities of teaching and learning: Teaching and learning activities are oriented to student's independent work, based on problem solving and using research results. Methods of assessment of learning achievements: The system of studying achievements, assessment criteria and methods are specified in the study program curriculum. Framework: Study subjects (modules), practical training: General college study subjects (volume - 15 credits): Foreign Language, Contemporary Lithuanian and Document Management, Social Psychology, Methodology of Applied Research. The main study field subjects (volume – 135 credits): Engineering Graphics, Applied Mathematics, Basics of Landscape Management, Agricultural Chemistry and Plant Protection, Protected Areas and Environment, Landscaping Architecture Basics, Landscape Design, Engineering of Urbanised Areas, Agronomy Basics, Engineering Geodesy and Topography, Environmental Science, Cultural Heritage, Greenery Design and Maintenance, Greenery Formation, Landscape Planning and Design, Environment Geo-information System, Dendrology (Floriculture, Decorative Plants and Trees). Practice (30 credits): Technological Practice 1, Technological Practice 2, Professional Activity Practice 1, Professional Activity Practice 2, Final Professional Activity Practice. Specialisations: Design of Residential Green Areas (21 credits): Design of Residential Green Areas, Small Architecture, Design and Development, Nature Conservation, Specialisation Practice 1. Urbanized Landscape Design (21 credits): Inventory of Landscape Elements, Projection of Public Spaces (Greeneries, parks), Nature Conservation, Specialisation Practice 2. Optional courses: Free elective course units - 9 credits. Landscape Maintenance Machinery, Business Management, Occupational Safety. Students perform practice at Lithuanian and foreign state institutions, which activities are related to landscape planning and protection, as well as in private companies that develop and implement urbanized landscape design and reconstruction projects. During studies students gain relevant practical skills in computer-assisted design technology. Access to professional activity or further study: Access to professional activity: Graduates typically work as landscape design engineers in architectural and urban planning, territory planning units of urban municipalities, departments of State Service For Protected Areas under the Ministry of Environment, and private enterprises maintenance of greenery areas in accordance with the procedure established by legal acts. Access to further study: Graduates can continue their studies at Lithuanian and foreign higher education institutions: Aleksandras Stulginskis University, Klaipeda University, Corvinus University of Hungary, Georgian Technical University, etc.
