Summary of the Profile of study programme
General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
The aim of the Visual Communication Engineering study programme is to train engineering professionals having and being able to use a wide range of interdisciplinary knowledge of visual communication product design and production engineering, able to design and develop visual communication products, and implement engineering solutions through the optimal use of equipment and
technologies.
Learning outcomes:
1. To acquire basic knowledge of natural sciences, mathematics and production engineering, required to master essential fundamentals of the field of production engineering studies.
2. To know basic concepts and terms of design and apply visual expression tools and the latest technologies and equipment to implement ideas of visual communication products in practice.
3. To master basic knowledge of materials science, production engineering, social sciences, economics and management relevant to practical work in manufacturing.
4. To conduct experiments in order to solve engineering issues in the production of visual communication products and evaluate their results.
5. To evaluate design trends in visual communication products, collect and analyse research data to solve design problems and implement ideas.
6. To apply knowledge of design, visual expression tools, the latest technologies and software to develop visual communication products and projects.
7. To solve challenges in the production of visual communication products by selecting the appropriate methods, materials and experimental and production equipment.
8. To identify key management and execution techniques/methods in the design, production and sales of the visual communication products in the field of production engineering.
9. To organise the work of the visual communication product development and/or production unit on the basis of engineering principles, taking in to account environmental and commercial considerations, basic occupational and fire safety requirements.
10. To work independently and in team solving designing and production engineering challenges of visual communication products, in cooperation with industry organisations and society.
11. To assess the impact of engineering solutions for the development and production of visual communication products on society and the environment, to comply with work ethics and engineering standards, taking responsibility for the results of one’s performance.
12. To independently plan career development activities in the context of life-long learning.
Activities of teaching and learning:
Lectures, training, laboratory work, practical work, individual and group assignments, presentation, discussion, practice and final project, self-study, etc. Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
The student‘s teaching and learning outcomes are assessed using a cumulative assessment system. A ten-point scale is applied to assess knowledge and skills. The final grade consists of interim achievements, an examination or a project. Depending on the complexity of the course unit and its impact on the achievement of learning outcomes, the components of the cumulative assessment and their proportions, is determined by the teacher. The assessment procedure, system and criteria are based on the principles of validity, reliability, clarityand
impartiality.
Framework:

Optional courses:
9 credits are allocated for free elective courses. Students are free to select course units taught in the Visual Communication Engineering study programme or other study programmes. The Visual Communication study programme offers three elective course units, of 3 credits
each.
Distinctive features of a study programme:
The Visual Communication Engineering study programme is unique interdisciplinary in the higher education sector. It is the only programme which is designed to train professionals with the combined knowledge and practical skills of production engineering and visual communication product design, and who can successfully apply them in visual communication, graphic media such as design, publishing, media, printing and other
companies.
Access to professional activity or further study:
Access to professional activity:
Graduates of the Visual Communication Engineering study programme will be able to successfully integrate into the labour market in the fields of visual communication, graphic media, publishing, printing, etc. in national and
international companies.
Access to further study:
Upon completion of the study programme, the graduates will be able to pursue a Master‘s
degree in Lithuanian or foreign higher education institutions.
