Summary of the Profile of study programme
General Description: Objective(s) of a study programme: Design study programme aim – educate design specialists able to plan designing activity, prepare and realize design projects, organise professional performance, react to business environment and market tendencies refering to Life Long Learning principles. Learning outcomes: 1. Knows basic concepts, historical and contemporary evolution of design, its peculiarities and links with the other art areas. 2. Able to analyse, assess critically and generalise the information necessary to solve design issues. 3. Able to conduct research on design demand. 4. Able to create and visualize design ideas. 5. Able to plan the stages of designing objects and(or) their systems and project activities. 6. Able to sketch design objects and(or) their systems applying theoretical knowledge and innovations in the creative process using tools of graphic expression, innovative technologies, IT software. 7. Experiments when creating design objects and(or) their systems using personal creative experience or generalising the results of other designers’ creativity. 8. Drafts design projects. 9. Models and(or) implements the designed objects and(or) their systems following project requirements. 10. Able to study independently, make solutions, plan personal performance perceiving the importance of lifelong learning and understanding moral responsibility for the results of creative activity.
11. Knows management principles, able to work in a team, knows safety requirements related to professional activities. 12. Able to communicate orally and in written in the state and foreign languages publicly presenting design ideas and projects, the portfolio of creative works. Activities of teaching and learning: Lectures, presentations, discussions, seminars, demonstrations, graphic exercises, creative exercises, practical exercises, group work, brainstorming, case studies, literature analysis, project development, etc. Methods of assessment of learning achievements: Learning outcomes are highlighted through a system of cumulative assessment of learning achievements. Knowledge and skills are assessed by ten grades scale. The final score may consist of several components, collected in the study process (interim reports, self-study papers, examination or project). Study subject teacher determines accumulative assessment of the subject components and their values of the coefficients depending on the complexity of the subject. Study subject teacher determines and informs the students at the beginning of the term about the impact (percent) of each component (task, work) for final assessment and formulates assessment criteria for each intermediate assignment. Framework: Study subjects (modules), practical training: Volume of general subjects of collegial studies consists of 15 credits: Foreign Language 1 (English) Level B2 / Foreign Language 1 (English) Level C1, Foreign Language 2 (English) Level B2 / Foreign Language 2 (English) Level C1, Philosophy, Oral and Written Communication, Business Law. Volume of subjects of the basic study field consists of 135 credits: General Art History, Drawing 1, Applied Software 1 / Applied Software 2, 2D Composition, Basics of Design, Methods of Developing Creativity, Drawing 2, History of Architecture and Design, Basics of Photography, 3D Composition, Interior and Furniture Design / Basics of Graphic Design and 2D Animation, Drawing 3, Psychology, Interior and Furniture Project / Branding Design and Computer Graphic, Print, Design Experiments, Design Research, Painting, Human Safety, Business Creation and Development, Experimental Drawing and Painting; volume of professional practices consists of 30 credits (Introductory Internship - Interpretation of Nature Forms, Educational Internship, Professional Internship, Graduation Internship, Creative Final Internship) and the Professional Bachelor Thesis consists of 15 credits. Specialisations:
Volume of specialisation subjects consists of 21 credits. Graphic Design. The following subjects are studied: Lay-out and Technologies of Print Objects, Design of Advertising Objects, WEB Design and Technologies, E-portfolio Design, Visual Communication Design. Interior and Furniture Design. The following subjects are studied: Materials and Technologies of Interior Objects and Furniture, Office Interior Project, Multifunctional Purpose Interior and Furniture System Project, Technical Project, Graduation (Diploma) Project Research. Optional courses: Volume of optional courses consists of 9 credits for free elective study subjects. One can deepen the knowledge in a chosen field of studies by selecting specialized subjects of the study field and choose subjects from the list of free elective study subjects. Design study programme offers the following free elective study subjects for the students of other study programmes of Kaunas University of Applied Sciences: Computer Graphics 1 / Typography, Computer Graphics 2 / Basics of WEB Design, Furniture Design / Computer Animation. Distinctive features of a study programme: The Design study programme is the only collegiate study programme in the Kaunas region that educates professional bachelors in Graphic Design and Interior and Furniture Design specialisations. The programme is flexible, modern, meets students' expectations, and is aimed at developing creative and critically thinking personalities. The programme's structure is based on a general introductory course in design studies, which provides the foundation for a comprehensive understanding of design principles required by designers in all fields. The specialisation studies enable students to work with fundamental tasks and relevant problems in a natural context and apply various information technologies during the design process of design objects. They have unique opportunities to experiment with materials and technologies in the glass, ceramics, textile, leather art, woodworking and restoration studios established at the Academy of Arts. Access to professional activity or further study: Access to professional activity: Upon graduation, the graduate will be able to work in firms, private limited liability companies, and indus-trial enterprises, establish legal entities and/or engage in the individual creative activity by the procedure set by the legislation. Access to further study: After completion of this study programme, further studies can be continued in any Lithuanian or European higher education institution with academic credits transfer.
