Summary of the Profile of study programme

General Description: Objective(s) of a study programme: The aim of Midwifery study programme is to educate an obstetrician who is able to organize and perform the healthcare and training of pregnant women, women in labour as well as a newborns in case of normal and pathological pregnancy and during the labour, to take care of reproductive women’s health during different age stages, to provide obstetric care in approved health care institutions. Learning outcomes:

1. apply theoretical knowledge of sciences, integrating midwifery, obstetrics and gynecology, natural sciences, biomedicine, social sciences and humanities, legal acts and normative documents, on which activities of midwives are based, in the care of pregnancy, maternity, the newly born and patients with gynecological problems 2. perform applied research in midwifery, executing evidence-based practice, to disseminate professional experience for midwives and other health personnel 3. To provide care for a woman and foetus in normal and pathological pregnancy, applying modern technologies and information systems, to substantiate decision making in situations of midwifery practice 4. monitor and manage the antenatal care, to conduct delivery, supervise labor and birth, to provide the postnatal care and neonatal resuscitation independently and in a team 5.dispense programmes of prevention, oncogynecological diseases detection, parenthood preparation, health education, and counseling on family planning 6. apply holistic approach in assessment of the fetus, woman and newborn observing the principles of safety, reliability, environment-friendly impact, to provide services in the practice of midwife, developing new ideas, disseminating the science and practice of midwifery 7. independently make professional decisions, assessing their effect in the practical situations of midwifery, to take responsibility following principles of the ethics of the profession transferring knowledge and practical experience in the training of health personnel. Activities of teaching and learning: Innovative teaching and learning methods are applied. A self study is student-oriented. Lectures, laboratory work, individual assignments, professional literature analysis, seminars, clinical case studies, examinations, final work preparation and defense are conducted. Methods of assessment of learning achievements: The evaluation of learning outcomes is a part of the study process. Assessment of subject studies is carried out both during the semester and in the examination session. Quiz (oral, written), test, participation in discussions, preparation and presentation of a case analysis, report on a video situation and its presentation, observation of assignment performance, practical assignment report, individual self-study assignment, project, group presentation, presentation of individual assignments. Framework: Study subjects (modules), practical training:

Subjects of general college studies 15 credits: Professional Language ( English, German, French). Latin, Information Technologies, Human Safety, Health Sociology. Study field subjects 177 credits: Basics of Psychology, Basics of Medical Law and Management in Midwifery, Microbiology. Nutrition and Dietetics, Professional Ethics, Pharmacology, Professional Ethics, Anatomy, Physiology, Basics of Pathology, Biophysics. Biochemistry. Radiology, General Nursing, First Aid in Emergency, Basics of Clinical Subjects, Surgical Nursing, Therapeutic Nursing, Sexual Education and Family Planning, Care of Low Risk Pregnancy, Labor and Delivery, Care of High Risk Pregnancy, Labor and Delivery, Applied Research in Midwifery Newborn Care, Children Diseases and Care. Professional Internships 86 credits: Professional Internship of General Nursing, Professional Internship of Newborn Care, Professional Internship of Delivery and Postpartum Care, Professional Internship of Pregnancy and Antenatal Care, Professional Internship of Hight Risk and Antenatal Care, Professional Internship of Postoperative and Gynecological Nursing, Professional Internship of Intensive Nursing, Final Professional Internship. Final Evaluation: Final Examination 3 credits, Bachelor Thesis 7 credits. Courses of Deeper Studies of the Same Study Field 15 credits: Family Health, Critical States in Midwifery Care, Gynecological Nursing, Genetic Counseling and Genetic Screening in Pregnancy, Statistical Research Methods. Specialisations: - Optional courses: Elective subjects 6 credits. Optional courses can be selected from the KK List. Distinctive features of a study programme: The studies are organized by integrating different clinical subjects. Pre-clinical practical workshops take place in simulation classrooms, the study of clinical care are organized in the primary level practice centers, secondary level hospitals and all departments of the tertiary level hospital. Students are offered the possibility to go for studies or work experience to the institutions of other countries on Erasmus programme. Research skills are developed by carrying out individual scientific research. Access to professional activity or further study: Access to professional activity: Graduates can find an employment in health care institutions: II and III level hospitals, primary health care institutions, nursing hospitals, rehabilitation institutions, old people houses, children and youth foster houses, offices of general practitioners, addiction centers, and military service.

Access to further study: The graduates are entitled to a credit transfer system for entering the first cycle university study programmes in accordance with the requirements established by the higher education school.
