Summary of the Profile of study programme
General Description: Objective(s) of a study programme: The aim of the study programme English for Public Relations is to train socially responsible professionals who are able to communicate correctly in written and spoken professional English, creatively solve linguistic problems in public relations activities, independently and/or in cooperation with other representatives of the professional field coordinate internal and external communication of an organisation, as well as develop and maintain intercultural communication and cooperation. Learning outcomes: 1) understands the English language as a system and appropriately use professional terminology; 2) knows the countries of the target language and their linguistic, social and/or cultural environment; 3) effectively uses the professional English language (C1 level) and a second foreign language (A2-B2 levels) in writing and orally; 4) understands, produces, summarizes and/or edits texts in the professional field of the target language; 5) identifies and analyses linguistic phenomena in the context of public relations; 6) uses modern information and communication technology to coordinate internal and external communication of an organisation; 7) able to identify and constructively solve problems in professional activities, using necessary resources and appropriate methods; 8) able to collect, analyse and organise material from a variety of sources, using a range of information technology and bibliographic references; 9) able to describe, present in public and defend the results of the conducted research; 10) applies the principles of professional ethics and citizenship when communicating with stakeholders and
resolving problems of the field of professional activity; 11) works constructively as part of a team when performing the tasks of professional activity and is accountable for the quality of their work; 12) maintains and develops intercultural communication and cooperation; 13) able to independently and responsibly carry out professional activities in accordance with the principles of ethics and sustainable development; 14) strives for continuous professional and personal development. Activities of teaching and learning: Innovative teaching and learning methods are applied, and the study process is virtualised. Student-oriented self-study is based on tasks and group activities that encourage problematic and critical thinking. Educational environment is created to enable students to self-control their study process, reflect on their activities and encourage creativity and innovation. The programme strives for students’ active participation in the study process. During lectures, attempts are made to create an environment for discussions; and a dialogue between the teacher and the student is encouraged. Methods of assessment of learning achievements: A ten score cumulative assessment system for assessing knowledge and skills is used. During a semester, learning outcomes are assessed during interim accountings (translations, tests, individual and group tasks and their presentations, projects, presentations of practical and self-study tasks, etc.). The final score consists of interim and examination evaluation scores. Framework: Study subjects (modules), practical training: Subjects of general collegial studies (15 ECTS): Social Psychology, Sustainable Development, Basics of Economics and Management, Professional Lithuanian. Subjects of the main study field (126 ECTS): · Subjects (87 ECTS):
Contemporary English, English Grammar, English Phonetics, Basics of Linguistics, Philosophy of Language, Business English, Organisational Communication, Sociolinguistics, English Lexicology and Stylistics, Theory and Practice of Translation, Methodology of Applied Research, Research Paper, English for Public Relations and Communication, Methodology of Writing Texts and Summarizing; · Internships (30 ECTS): Internship of Information and Communication Management, Professional Internship, Final Professional Internship; · Professional Bachelor Thesis (9 ECTS). Elective Courses (30 ECTS): 2nd Foreign Language, Information and Media Technologies, Public Relations, Professional Ethics and Law, Management of Informative Texts. Freely Elective Subjects (9 ECTS) Specialisations: Optional courses: Students have a right to choose elective courses from the list offered by Kauno kolegija. Students can choose the 2nd foreign language from the list offered by the Language Centre of the Faculty of Arts and Education of Kauno kolegija (16 languages). The study programme is oriented towards studies of professional English, which provides favourable conditions for becoming a specialist of a particular linguistic area. Students have their internships in different types of companies: media channels; communication and information divisions of the centres providing cultural and social services as well as manufacturing companies. Access to professional activity or further study: Access to professional activity: Graduates can produce information and communication products in their mother tongue and the English language, know the principles of management, therefore they can work in the divisions of public relations and marketing services of Lithuanian and foreign companies. Access to further study: Graduates have the right to continue their postgraduate studies following the terms and conditions set by any higher education institution.
