Summary of the Profile

Objective(s) of a study programme
The objective of the study programme ‘‘Engineering of Heritage Structures“ is to train highly qualified heritage specialists who are able to understand – heritage protection work, be able to plan and organize it and to manage it.
Learning outcomes:
Know natural and technological environment processes, and mathematics patterns and laws that are necessary to understand the fundamental basics of civil engineering
Have basic, practical and important knowledge in the field of technological sciences about restoration and conservation technologies, maintenance work, their organization, structural and exploitation materials.
Know building structural and architectural solutions and the principles of structure calculations.
Know the problems of relevant engineering areas.
Know how to find necessary information applying IT, databases, software and other scientific and engineering sources of information.
Manage to perform the necessary tests for the solutions of building restoration, have skills to work with equipment used in building restoration technologies
Manage to analyze and select constructional solutions for buildings.
Be able to prepare documentation necessary for heritage protection work to start and perform.
Be able to prepare architectural design of the heritage building.
Be able to apply restoration technologies of masonry structures, stone, and brick masonry.
Be able to select and apply restoration technologies of wooden constructions, wood finishing and carpenter‘s products.
Be able to select and apply metal products and metal structures restoration technologies.
Manage to select and apply roof covering, decorative covering decorative plaster and plastered and painted surfaces restoration technologies.
Be able to prepare estimate documentation.
Be able to communicate in the correct Lithuanian language and at least one foreign language to engineering community and general public.
Understand the ethical, legal and commercial factors of technological activities and evaluate possibilities of immovable cultural heritage environment sector preservation and the options of the enterprise (division).
Be able to solve the technological tasks individually and in multiprofile group (team).
Understand the impact of engineering solutions to the public and environment, comply with professional ethics and standards of engineering, and understand the responsibility of engineering activity results.

Teaching and learning activities:
Student oriented teaching applying innovative teaching and learning methods.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Learning achievements assessment is carried out during the semester and examination session. Cumulative assessment system is applied and learning achievements are assessed by interim assessments. Examination or course paper presentation is applied during examination session. Ten grade scale system is applied. Final grade consists of interim and examination grades. Final grade is calculated according the proportions foreseen in the subject description.

Specializations:
According to the experts opinion and enterprises survey there is no distinguished specialization, but there are foreseen subjects for deeper specialization–alternatives, the aim of which is to broaden and deepen student‘s knowledge gained learning the study field block modules: Urban and Landscape Heritage Management or Management of Heritage Buildings, Archeology or Geothechnics, Information Technologies or Repair and Reconstruction Technologies, Building Maintenance or Structures Strengthening.
