Summary of the Profile

General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
The main aim of the study programme is to train highly qualified literature and culture specialists, able to perceive modern theories and processess of art, to conceptualize the importance of contemporary literature and art technologies in the modern society, to suite the standards of specialists in European and world literature, culture and art.
Learning outcomes:
The graduates will be able to define the theoretical concept of modern culture created by the literature, other arts and modern technologies; to compare principles and technical options of interaction between literature and other arts in modern media; to analyze possible changes of literary text; to create systematic attitude towards literary text, as well as other art and different cultural discourses based on cultural theory; to identify boundaries of literature, art, cultural canons and genres, authorial and authentic school paradigms, communication of different genres and cultures; to improve their professional skills and knowledge.
Activities of teaching and learning:
Problem teaching, survey lecture, individual work in libraries and film libraries, one public presentation on the subject of a study during chosen seminar, discussions in seminars, individual work in libraries and film libraries, public discussions during seminars, group discussion.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
The main form of evaluation is an examination. However, courses units may be evaluated by the pass/fail evaluation as well. Every course unit is concluded with either a written or written-oral examination or pass/fail evaluation. Student's knowledge and general performance during the exam are evaluated using grading scale from 1(very poor) to 10 (excellent), or by pass or fail evaluation in the cases when pass/fail evaluation is foreseen as a final evaluation of the course unit.

This program that integrates literary (mostly Lithuanian), art (mostly visual and audiovisual) and cultural theories is the only such program among Lithuanian universities

Access to professional activity:
The graduates may be employed as critical analysts of literature and art, as editors, publishers, public relations specialists or department consultant in the state media, cultural and scientific institutions, as well as in non-governmental and private organizations.


Access to further study:
Graduates from the Master’s degree study programme are eligible for further Doctoral studies in Philology or any other field of Humanities.
