General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
Beauty therapy studies aim to develop students' critical thinking, reasoning skills and the ability to assess situations professionally and make appropriate decisions, based on an indepth knowledge base in the field. The aim of the programme is to train professionals who are able to work both independently and in teams with other professionals, to provide cosmetology services based on a holistic approach to beauty and health, and to organise a cosmetology business. It will also promote the development of science-based practice by providing knowledge of medical technologies and their application in public health areas.
Learning outcomes:
1. 1. be familiar with national and international healthcare policy, legislation, safety and hygiene requirements, legal principles governing the regulation of beauty and wellness
services and other documents governing the activities of beauty therapists/cosmetologists.
2. 2. knowledge of human anatomy, physiology and pathology, the ability to assess potential health risks and to apply this knowledge to professional problem solving and the
identification of the need for specialist advice in health and wellness in the beauty sector.
3. Know the fundamentals of biomedical sciences to be able to apply them in the practice of beauty therapy.
4. Know the composition of cosmetic products and be able to apply this knowledge in cosmetic procedures.
5. Know the mechanisms of action of facial and body equipment, their purpose, effects and methods of application in professional practice.
6. Be able to carry out applied scientific research, interpret, analyse, summarise and present results.
7. Be able to independently assess a client's aesthetic needs, select appropriate assessment methods and equipment, taking into account physiological and pathological
changes, and take a cosmetic history.
8. Select and perform cosmetic procedures appropriately and safely.
9. Plan, organise and carry out professional consultancy activities and the business of cosmetic services.
10. Bendraus su įvairaus amžiaus, lyties, socialinių sluoksnių ir specialiųjų poreikių klientais, laikydamasis profesinės etikos ir pilietiškumo principų.
11. Vykdys švietėjišką veiklą, perteikdamas kosmetologijos srities žinias tiek specialistams, tiek ne specialistams, nacionaliniu ir tarptautiniu lygmenimis.
12. Žinos mokymosi visą gyvenimą svarbą ir kūrybingai taikys šias nuostatas profesinėje veikloje.
13. Gebės savarankiškai sudaryti darbo planus ir dirbti komandoje su kitų sričių specialistais, vykdyti švietėjišką veiklą ir integruoti mokslu pagrįstus tyrimus į savo
profesinę praktiką.
14. Gebės bendradarbiauti ir bendrauti lietuvių bei užsienio kalbomis su įvairaus amžiaus, lyties, socialinių sluoksnių ir specialiųjų poreikių klientais, laikydamasis profesinės etikos principų.
15. Gebės generuoti novatoriškas idėjas, prisitaikyti prie naujų situacijų ir stiprinti grožio terapeuto profesijos įvaizdį.
16. Gebės planuoti, organizuoti ir vykdyti grožio paslaugų verslą bei naudotis šiuolaikinėmis informacinėmis technologijomis grožio terapeuto praktikoje.
17. Rūpinsis savo profesinės savimonės stiprinimu ir nuolat tobulins savo įgūdžius.
Activities of teaching and learning:
Studies last 3 years (6 semesters), during which study subjects are distributed evenly - 6-7 subjects are studied in each semester. Examinations are also spread evenly over the
semesters. In semester VI, students have the opportunity to submit and defend their final thesis. The study programme includes 5 internships and 9 free electives.
The beauty therapy study programme uses a variety of forms of teaching: lectures, exercises, seminars, independent work, individual work with the student, demonstration,
observation, practical sessions with moulage and people, cosmetic products and equipment, case studies, simulation of real situations, pair and group work (discussions, project work, case studies, tests, etc.). These different forms of activities will ensure that students achieve the intended learning outcomes and acquire the necessary knowledge and
skills.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Students' achievements are evaluated on a ten-point system in accordance with the approved Procedures for the Evaluation of Student Achievements. A summative
(cumulative) assessment system shall be used for student reports. The assessment of learning outcomes shall be as follows: SP + CP + EP, where SP = independent work grade
(20 % of the final grade); CP = average of the grades of the control assignments (20 % of the final grade); EP - examination grade (60 % of the final grade).Feedback is given to students and lecturers after the evaluation of results: to the lecturer, in order to improve and develop the efficiency of the study process and the quality of teaching. The free electives in the Beauty Therapy study programme are 9 credits from the list of free electives of the College or other higher education institution.

Students learn how to take into account a client's individual characteristics and health status to achieve not only an aesthetic appearance, but also an overall better well-being.Latest trends and technology - the college keeps up to date with the latest trends in the
beauty industry, so students have the opportunity to work with modern technology and learn the latest cosmetology and beauty therapy services.Comprehensive approach - the curriculum covers a wide range of topics, from skin care,
cosmetic products, hand and foot and other therapeutic treatments, to the psychological aspects that are important when working with clients.All these features help students to become professional and qualified beauty therapists,
able to apply a wide range of knowledge and techniques in their work.

Graduates are usually employed in cosmetic surgeries,beauty and aesthetic medicine clinics, wellness and SPA centres, providing various services: facial and body treatments,
depilation, nail care and other beauty treatments, working for firms selling cosmetic products, etc., or engaging in individual activities or setting up their own business. Around
76% of graduates work in their speciality, some of them abroad.
Access to further study:
Graduates of the cosmetology study programme may ontinue their studies at VMU, Klaipėda University in second cycle studies, as well as at foreign educational institutions
in accordance with the procedure laid down by these higher education institutions: in Finland, Poland and other countries, where university bachelor's or master's degree
programmes in cosmetology are implemented.
