Summary of the Profile

General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
The goal of this program is to train specialists who are able to apply the conceptions of software systems in designing, creating and safely managing software systems, who are able to implement, adapt and take care of software and hardware intended to solve business issues, who are able to apply new ideas and efficiently collaborate with the specialists of European Union and other foreign countries.
Learning outcomes:
Generic competencies developed:
Awareness of the importance of life-long learning, ability to take moral responsibility for his/her own and team’s activity and its results. Awareness of the importance of current technologies in modern society, as well as the ability to meet the challenges. Ability to compete and implement himself/herself in labour market, to adapt to new, constantly changing requirements in regional, national and international area.
Subject specific competencies developed:
Knowledge and ability to apply the fundamental conceptions, programming paradigms, as well as modern programming and programming management solutions of the field of software systems by specifying, modelling and designing the program systems. Knowledge of the process of software, by applying network, component, systemic programming technologies, ability to manage and evaluate the projects of software systems, to ensure the safety of these projects. Ability to design and implement multi-platform software systems, to modify them, ensure quality and safety, knowledge and application of reverse engineering process, ability to expedite the process of software creation by using software reuse methods and other technologies. Ability to analyse and interpret information flows, to determine causal links and provide conclusions in order to ensure more efficient work of information systems in business organizations, covering real and virtual equipment. Ability to prepare standardized documentation of software in accordance with applicable standards and legal acts, ability to implement, test, administrate and update software and hardware, by ensuring the efficient activity of organization, safe and reliable infrastructure.
Learning outcomes:
The programme aims to train specialists who are able to apply the conceptions of software systems in designing, creating and safely managing software systems, who are able to implement, adapt and take care of software and hardware intended to solve business issues, who are able to apply new ideas and efficiently collaborate with the specialists of European Union and other foreign countries.
Activities of teaching and learning:
The choice of study methods is determined by competences developed by students, learning outcomes, as well as the student-centred learning. The competences acquired during the studies of subjects will be consistently developed and deepened by mastering the abilities of a higher level. At the beginning of studies, study and assessment methods aiming at general knowledge, awareness and application of study basics, emphasizing a teacher’s supervision, grounded with tasks and learning (lectures, interactive lectures, practices, laboratory works, etc.) will be used, while, in senior courses, activating teaching methods, the methods emphasizing a student’s individual learning, substantiated by scientific research, problem solving (discussion, analysis of research article, group work, individual consultations, etc.) will be used.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
The criteria of assessment of students’ achievements are aimed to achieve expected learning outcomes and are related to the learning outcomes of entire study programme. The accumulative assessment with leverage coefficients applied to different task types will be used to assess the knowledge and abilities acquired by students. The following assessment methods will be used: examinations in oral and written form, practices, case analysis, presentations, reports, self- evaluation, peer evaluation in distance environment, colloquiums, defence of laboratory works, tests, individual homework, research papers, etc. Each teacher, while creating assessment criteria of a subject, will take into consideration the aims of a subject and knowledge, abilities and competences necessary for the qualification of software systems.
The examination will be the final form of evaluation in all subjects, which will be taken if a student’s individual work during the semester reaches threshold level. In the basic subjects of Software Systems, it will be strived for a typical level of study achievements, i.e., we will strive that students would know the basic theories and principles of study subject (field), would be able to substantiate the essential achievements of study field, would be able to apply the knowledge in solving standard problems of study field or the problems related to professional activity, would be able to independently collect, assess and interpret the data of study field necessary to take decisions, would convey common information of study field, ideas, problems and solutions, would have learning skills necessary for further studies and individual learning.
Framework:
Study subjects (modules), practical training:
The programme consists of 3 parts: Compulsory part of the programme; Individual Studies; Elective courses for student. The basic subjects of study field are as follows: Discrete Structures, Procedural Programming, Data structures and Algorithms, Programming Languages, Software engineering, Object-Oriented Programming, Software Development Process, Software Systems Project Management, Software Quality and Security, Software Systems Testing, Component and Parallel programming. Traineeship of Systems Design and Practice of Software Design and Management are foreseen in the programme.
Specialisations:
The aim of the specialization of E-service systems is to provide an opportunity to acquire additional competencies and skills needed in the areas of requirements specification, design and implementation of e-service; to provide knowledge about e-service evaluation, management principles and technological solutions. The aim of the specialization of Robotic systems is to provide knowledge about the architectures of robotic systems, data processing with artificial intelligence; to acquire essential skills in robotic systems programming and their integration into enterprise data management systems.
Optional courses:
It is possible to deepen the acquired knowledge by choosing a specialization.
Distinctive features of a study programme:
The specialists of Software Systems will be able to apply the concepts of software systems in designing, creating and safely managing software systems, will be able to implement, adapt and maintain software and hardware intended to solve the tasks, will be able to apply new ideas. The exclusiveness of study programme among the other study programmes of Lithuanian higher schools is the alternative of e-service systems which is intended to train programmers who are able to design, modernize, evaluate and maintain modern e-service systems. Future specialists will acquaint with the policy, strategy of service care in Lithuania, will know service ethics, the specificity of operation and maintenance of virtual e-service systems. During the studies, students have possibility to leave to the universities of VUŠA foreign partners, to participate in the lectures delivered by visiting professors from foreign universities, or participate in video conferencing lectures.
Access to professional activity or further study:
Access to professional activity:
The persons, after acquiring the qualification of bachelor in information sciences, can work as system analytics, programmers, testers, i.e. specialists, who are able to design, create, implement, exploit and develop software systems in enterprises, institutions, or organizations.
Access to further study:
Graduates will be able to continue the studies in master study programmes in the area of technologies and physical sciences (the fields of informatics, informatics engineering) in Lithuania and abroad.
