General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
To educate highly qualified linguistics personnel able to reveal and put into practice new functional potential of language acting under the influence of globalisation, multilingual and multicultural contexts, the growing impact of the digital multimedia.
Learning outcomes:
Students have :
1. To be aware of the general structure of linguistics, its main issues, essential concepts, methodologies and developments.
2. To be aware of the structure and system of Lithuanian language, the role and the particularities of the Lithuanian language in relation to multicultural contexts.
3. To be aware of contemporary linguistic contexts, surroundings and communication premises, its relations with the globalised economic and social development.
4. To be able to define, analyse, explain linguistic (and especially Lithuanian) terms from various aspects (phonetic, lexical, morphological, syntactical, etc.), using adequate terminology and methods of research (phonetics and phonology, morphology and word-formation, syntax, lexicology and semantics).
5. To be able to produce arguments for defining and explaining the role of Lithuanian language in the multilinguistic context of the globalised world.
6. To make professional solutions based on linguistic analysis, to be able to analyse discourse.
7. To be able to perform text editing and make professional choices in terms of language for increased communicative impact.
8. To know how language (linguistic worldview) generates competitive cultural, social, economic ideas.
9. To evaluate professionally narratives of business and economics, to be able to apply methods of linguistic correction.
10. To be able to create influential texts for communicating messages, ideas, solutions and issues to specialist and non-specialist audiences.
11. To acquire knowledge of effective study of foreign languages (technologies of language learning) and to be effective in natural and virtual multilinguistic environments.
12. To develop professional competence through reading of the newest literature, critical media analysis, raising critical social and value questions, searching for individual answers.
13. To develop linguistic and social responsibility, to augment the prestige of Lithuanian language and culture, to perceive language as a social and economical value.
14. To be able to develop skills of academic analysis and critical thinking, independently analyse and evaluate linguistic phenomena, collect and critically evaluate various types of information, to integrate, recreate it and use it for new ideas.
15. To be able to study linguistic literature and sources independently, as well as those of integrated fields, to understand terminology, to develop professionally and personally.
16. To be able to individually analyse, interpret and critically evaluate media of linguistic issues.
17. To develop personal creativity and strengthen value-based attitude towards language and its social expressions.
Activities of teaching and learning:
The study process consists of a variety of teaching and learning methods that meet students' different learning styles and needs. In most courses in order to achieve more efficient assimilation of knowledge, several methods are combined: theoretical, involving, interactive, problem-based training lectures, workshops and seminars where students carry out practical tasks, analyze work-related cases and situations, prepare presentations for certain subject courses, participate in discussions, consult their colleagues, develop individual and team projects, discuss the sources of visual material and other. During individual work hours students analyze specialty-related literature, search for information and do research.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Cumulative assessment is applied. It consists of intermediate assignments (colloquia, practical work, individual and team assignments and their presentation, research work, etc.) and evaluation of students' performance at written or oral examination.

The volume of the main study field is 165 ECTS.
Students have the following main study field subjects:
History and Theory of Linguistics, Modern Linguistic Theory, World Languages, Etymology of English Language, History of Lithuanian Language, Phonetics and Phonology, Lexicology and Semantics, Semantics of English Language, Computational Linguistics, Morphology and Word-Formation, Syntax, Stylistics and Text Editing, Language Policy, Sociolinguistics, Pragmatics, Creative Writing, Terminology, Terminology of English Language, Dialog Seminar, Language Industries and Innovations, Narrative Analysis of Entrepreneurship and Economics, Cognitive Semantics, Linguistic Research Methods, Geolinguistics, Discourse Analysis.
Students have the following subjets from other study fields: Globalization and the Unified Communication Area, Integrated Marketing Communication.
The volume of professional practice that students have in the workplaces of institution's social partners is 15 ECTS. The volume of Bachelor Thesis is 21 ECTS.

Graduates of Linguistics study program will be able to work both in traditional areas covered by linguists - writers, editors, translators, terminologists, stylists, and so on, and to apply their knowledge in other areas of work: business analysts, marketing and personnel departments, communications companies, public relations agencies and politicians assistants political campaign managers, public relations specialists and representatives of the press, online media and social networking analysts, organizations, office managers, as well as analysts of the linguistic expression in recruitment companies, consulting firms, ect.
Access to further study:
Graduates of the Linguistics study program can continue their studies and choose programs from the second cycle of linguistics, philology, translation, semiotics, communication and other fields in the humanities or social science studies.
