Summary of the Profile

General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
The goal of this program is to prepare highly qualified integrated science teachers with holistic knowledge of natural sciences, modern pedagogy and didactics, which will be able to analyze, evaluate and explain natural phenomena and processes in an integrated, advanced technology and sustainable development context, to organize the process of integrated science education by implementing the first part of the basic curriculum (in grades 5-8). In addition to acquisition of special knowledge and abilities, the students will be able to carry out research, constantly improve, self-study and learn for life.

Ability to think critically, constructively and creatively. Communication skills. Ability to carry out scientific research. Personal development and learning to learn, ability to think critically, constructively and creatively, professional communication skills, new technology and information management, cultural competence.
Subject specific competencies developed:
Basic knowledge in the fields of physics, chemistry, biology and natural geography, the usage of information technology to convey knowledge, the ability to convey phenomena, processes and /or structures in a consistent and holistic way, interpret natural phenomena in the rapidly changing world of technology, systematic application of science cognition and education methods, ability to educate students' science competence, responsibility and citizenship.
Learning outcomes:
Graduate of the program, a highly qualified integrated science teacher, will be able to: understand, analyze, evaluate and explain natural phenomena and processes in an integrated manner, in the context of in the context of advanced technologies, sustainable development and resource conservation; interpret science research data and convey it to the audience; plan and organize the process of integrated science education, choosing the right content, effective forms of learning organization, learning and results assessment methods; plan and lead the students' research activities in the classroom, in the laboratory, in the school territory and beyond;• initiate, design and independently conduct pedagogical research, manage and organize their learning activities, study independently or in a group with others in their personal and professional development process throughout their lives.
Activities of teaching and learning:
Methods of contact work: demonstration, interpretation, conversation, discussion, group work, case study, analysis of educational documents, analysis of scientific article, social modeling, mind map, simulation, didactic role play, simulation and contextual exercises, laboratory work, computer work , consulting. Study methods applied to self-study: analysis of scientific and methodological sources of information, case analysis, research methods (observation, survey, activity research, experiment, experiment), project method, individual and group work, group discussion, mind map, creative tasks, writing works, study portfolio (portfolio), analysis of teacher practical experience, reflection of activity, consulting.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
A ten-point proportional criterion-evaluation system is used to assess knowledge, abilities and skills of the university. Study results and achievements during the semester is carried out periodically and systematically. Active learning principles and techniques, problem based, creative, analytical activity-based tasks used for the interim and final assessment. The semester's self-study assignments are graded, and the final grade is determined during the examination session by multiplying the individual grades by the weighted factor and the product summing.

The program consists of 63 credits of pedagogical studies (basics of pedagogy; educational psychology; general didactics; planing of educational process; inclusive education; pedagogical action research; 30 credits for teaching practice in school), 162 credits of pedagogical integrated natural science studies (holistic conception of natural phenomena; mathematics and data management; materials, movement, energy, and their variations; the light energy and biophysical processes; the primary structure; life structure; life organization; compounds and processes; refer vital activities; intelligent technology; environmental and world studies; didactics of integrated science; information technology in science education). Pedagogical studies are completed by preparation and defense of Pedagogical studies work. The program are completed by preparation and defense of Bachelor work.

Distinctive features of a study programme:
The program combines pedagogy and nature (biology, physics, chemistry) sciences and is focused on the first part of the basic education (integrated science education 5-8). Study program structure – partial modular. The studies of natural science are carried out in an integrated aproach.

Access to professional activity:
The graduate will be able to work as a teacher of integrated science (5-8 grade), chemistry, physics and biology (7-8 grade) of the first part of the basic curriculum; to work as a teacher in non-formal educational institutions for children; to continue their studies in Master's study programs in the field of social sciences of education and training in Lithuania and abroad.
