Summary of the Profile

General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
To train qualified specialists of social business with the relevant knowledge that is based on new discoveries and skills to critically evaluate the information on social business start-ups and their development, their relations with management, economics, marketing, finance and law, to adapt successfully to multicultural and multilingual work environment by acting on the basis of professional ethics and social responsibility for their actions.
Learning outcomes:
To be able to communicate in correct Lithuanian, both orally and in writing; to find and analyze professional literature and to communicate in the chosen foreign language; to reasonably debate in a professional environment; to assess social environment and to identify the common patterns of its change; to examine the need for social business; to prepare the documents for establishing a social enterprise; to develop business plan for a social enterprise; to plan and organize enterprise’s business processes; to organize marketing activities; to communicate and cooperate with partners and clients; to evaluate the results of activities; to develop and sell social business services; to conduct and organize a campaign of social business support; to critically and constructively evaluate one’s own professional practice, knowledge and values, to reflect on professional development, understanding the importance of lifelong learning and working towards harmonization; to take responsibility for their careers and to deepen their professional knowledge consistently applying the principles of lifelong learning.

Activities of teaching and learning:
Problem based teaching, seminars, discussions, group work, practical tasks, literature analysis, project work, reflections, situational simulations, etc.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Cumulative assessment method is applied at Kolping University of Applied Sciences. The learning outcomes presented in subject programmes are assessed by cumulative scores. All subject or module studies end with an exam or student self-study work (project). Final subject assessment is a cumulative score, e. g. active participation, midterm tests, individual work, and examination. Assessment formula of students’ achievements is presented in a subject programme.
Framework:
Study subjects (modules), practical training:
Key Competences are firstly developed in semesters 1-4 (23 credits: First and Second Foreign Languages, Philosophy, Standard Lithuanian, etc.). At the same time students, having passed Core Subjects such as Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, Business Mathematics and Statistics, Basics of Social Business, Information Technologies, Management, Social Economics, Social Development, Theory of Organizations, Business Law, etc., study the subjects that are based on the knowledge of the aforementioned subjects (Management of Social Enterprise, Management of Human Resources, Business Ethics, Business Research, Sustainable Development Policy and Strategy and other subjects; 147 credits). During their training period, students undertake four Professional Practices that are fulfilled at Kolping University of Applied Sciences (18 credits) and the Final Professional Practice (12 credits) done in enterprises.

Distinctive features of a study programme:
Students learn two foreign languages (English and German); they also have an opportunity to undertake the final practice in Kolping College’s partner organizations in Germany. This program is unique in Lithuania

Social business program graduates students will be able to create and work in the social business enterprise by applying innovative market models when dealing with social problems. The graduates with knowledge and skills of both business principles and social problems will be able to organize different social programs developed by socially responsible businesses.
Access to further study:
Students have the right to pursue recognition of study results if they want to study at university undergraduate or integrated studies. After completion of bridge courses or fulfilling other requirements of the accepting institution of higher education, a student has the right to enter the second cycle (master's) studies.
