Summary of the Profile

General description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
Prepare emergency medical aid professional bachelors capable of providing the first and the necessary / emergency medical aid independently or with a medical team to persons of different ages, depending on the nature of injuries suffered and the degree of disorder of vital functions as well as of transporting patients and accident victims to medical facilities to ensure the necessary support of vital functions.
Learning outcomes:
Upon graduaton from the Emergency Medical Aid study programme, students will be able to:
1.Apply the general knowledge acquired in all spheres of their professional activity.
2. Assess the age psychology as well as psycho-social, physiological and anatomical characteristics of a person/patient when providing the first or the necessary / emergency medical aid.
3. Participate in emergency medical aid and other biomedical research enabling the development of professional activities.
4. Conduct qualitative and quantitative research to summarize and evaluate professional performance.
5. Evaluate the accident location, under the existing aid algorithms independently or jointly with the medical team transport the victims, sort them if necessary and take the responsibility of a leader to provide medical aid.
6. Provide the first and the necessary / emergency medical aid taking into consideration the nature of traumas as well as the degree of the disorder of vital functions.
7. Perform special medical interventions, including the use of medical equipment.
8. Build professional activities on professional ethics, human values and citizenship.
9. Evaluate today's human society, ethical and moral issues, reflecting the effect of feedback results on the environment.
10. Apply the general knowledge and erudition, express themselves in correct Lithuanian as well as a foreign language orally and in writing, collect and organize information responsibly.
11. Think analytically, critically and creatively, reflect their own needs for studies and professional development to improve their professional performance and personality based on values.
Activities of teaching and learning:
The duration of studies is 3 years (6 semesters). Study courses are equally set out in each semester, 5-7 courses in each semester (30 credits per semester). During the studies students have lectures, practical activities, individual work of a lecturer with the student, independent work, elements of scientific work. Exams are scheduled equally in all semesters. The final work is presented and defended in the 6th semester. Three practical trainings are scheduled in the programme as well as optional courses. During the Emergency Medical Aid study programme various forms of activities (lectures, practice, seminars, excursions, etc.) and methods (demonstration, discussions, group work, projects, case study, tests, etc.) are applied, which will create condition for achieving the learning outcomes.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Study results are evaluated on the basis of summative assessment: IP – independent work – 20 % of the final grade + CA - control assignments - 20 % of the final grade + EG – exam grade - 60 % of the final grade. Practical trainings are evaluated based on the following: PTR – grade of practical training report - 20 % of the final grade + A – attendance - 20 % of the final grade + PTD – practical training defense grade - 50 % of the final grade + AE - student‘s activities evaluation during the practical training. The final work is evaluated based on the following criteria: evaluation of the practical (project) part of the final thesis, evaluation of the written part of the thesis, presentation of the thesis.
