Summary of the Profile

Objective(s) of a study programme:

On the basis of achievements in international level fundamental and applied interdisciplinary science and technologies, to train Masters of Biology able to creatively develop knowledge of sports biology, independently organize and carry out research, use the results obtained in the preparation, execution and evaluation of different level programs related to the activity of physiological functions in the human body under regular conditions and the conditions of physical loads and solve problems of physical health, nutrition and physical fitness for people.
Learning outcomes:

Programme graduates will be able to:
1. Analyze the conceptions of scientific method according to their logical aspects of the realities of today’s scientific activities
2. Generate and creatively apply ideas in research context
3. Convincingly convey research conclusions to professionals and the public, logically justifying them on the basis of available knowledge and decisions
4. Effectively apply the principles of communication and cooperation in academic and social environment
5. Plan complicated scientific activities identifying the risk of unpredictable situations
6. Make responsible and reasonable decisions leading expert and team work
7. Demonstrate autonomous self-directed learning the skills needed to continue their studies
8. Critically and objectively analyse their responsibilities in research activities
9. Analyze and interpret the basic processes in molecular biology, genetics and microbiology and the mechanisms of their adaptation to physical loads
10. Analyze and interpret the knowledge of human muscle physiology, complex physiological and biochemical processes and their regulatory mechanisms
11. Interpret the data of genetic studies understanding the application possibilities of methods in molecular biology
12. Organize and carry out testing of aerobic capacity using modern methods of gas analysis
13. Organize and carry out research on the accuracy and speed of movements, motor learning, impairments due to diseases, applying modern methods of movement
14. Organize and carry out research on muscle contraction strength, speed, fatigue using modern methods of isokinetic dynamometry, electromyography and muscle electrostimulation
15. Perform research on the functional state of the motor system, respiratory and cardiovascular systems, analyze and interpret the obtained results
16. Establish and assess patterns as well as individual characteristics of fatigue and recovery after physical loads for athletes
17. Perform research on physical abilities, analyze and interpret the obtained results
18. Establish and assess biomechanical patterns of motor control
19. Carry out modelling and correction of physical loads, analyze and interpret the obtained results
20. Identify and evaluate the various problems related to physical activity, physical fitness and health
Activities of teaching and learning:

Lecture, group discussion, reading research articles, learning through laboratory practice, empirical and analytical studies, comparative analysis, development of project work, etc.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Preparation and delivery of power-point presentations, communications, reports, analysis of research papers, project, examination, etc.
