General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
To equip students with a solid grounding in all the basic knowledge, skills and competences required to gain philological skills in English; to provide knowledge in culture and literature of the English-speaking countries, linguistics, and communication skills.

Subject specific competencies developed:
Acquiring linguistic knowledge and linguistic skills; basic literary knowledge and ability to apply it; knowledge and understanding of the structure of English and ability to analyse it on various levels; knowledge of literatures of English speaking countries, ability to understand fundamental aspects; awareness of cultural specifics and civilization of the English speaking countries; English language communication skills (ability to perform on C1/C2 level); mediation and translation skills: ability to communicate through translating, interpreting and rendering information; ability to fulfil philological research; national language communication skills; ability to handle information using it in studying philology.
Learning outcomes:
The aim of the major field of Bachelor’s study programme of English Philology is to prepare English philology professionals, having the knowledge of the English language consistent patterns, structure and functions, the peculiarities of literature in English; graduates are able to analyze the phenomena of the English language and literature in various aspects, to perform philological researches independently; with the help of modern technologies, graduates are able to translate and edit specialized texts from English into Lithuanian and vice versa.
Activities of teaching and learning:
The studies of subjects are organised by applying the following forms of studies: lectures, seminars, individual and group consultations. All these forms of studies are geared towards promoting an active learning of students. Theoretical lectures are inclusive ones with discussion method applied. The latter helps to develop skills of integrated knowledge in making decisions. During seminars, individual and group work methods are applied, the students are given standard and creative tasks which enable developing professional and transferable skills, teach the students to systematise and interpret information, consolidate their foreign language usage skills.

Oral and written examinations, practice, presentations, persistent assessment.

The Programme consists of compulsory subjects (180 credits), which are focused on developing subject knowledge, professional and general skills necessary to acquire the first philological qualification of the university level. 60 credits are allocated for individual study subjects.

The knowledge, skills and competencies of the graduates enable them to work in translation-interpretation agencies, editorial offices or publishing houses, tourism and travel agencies, foreign embassies in Lithuania, Lithuanian embassies in foreign countries, in any company or organization where the proper knowledge of the English language is required.
Access to further study:
Access to the second cycle studies upon meeting requirements set by the accepting higher education institution.
