Summary of the Profile

General Description: Objective(s) of a study programme: The aim of the study program is to prepare creatively thinking professional bachelors with knowledge of furniture production technologies and practical skills, able to apply this knowledge independently and in a team in solving new product development, design and production planning tasks, organize and plan engineering activities, adapting to changing professional environment and market requirements. Learning outcomes: 1. To know the theoretical essentials of furniture manufacturing technologies and explain their relation to knowledge of general subjects. 2. To name new materials and technological equipment used in furniture production and apply this knowledge in creating furniture manufacturing technologies. 3. To select the technological processes of furniture manufacture and determine the costs of resources used in production (i.e. materials, production blanks, energy, working time, etc.). 4. To check and evaluate the state of the technological process and the quality of the manufactured products. 5. To understand different methodologies and apply the latest digital programmes when designing new furniture and managing production processes. 6. To collect, analyse and systematise scientific and professional information, perform various experiments, and evaluate their results in a qualified manner. 7. To analyse the technological processes and qualitative indicators of production, to identify the problem with the help of research, and to apply the appropriate equipment, techniques and methodology to achieve sustainable results.

8. To organise the work process, identify and solve furniture-manufacturing problems, understand the impact of specific production engineering solutions on society and the environment. 9. To calculate and evaluate the impact of specific production engineering solutions on the company's economic indicators. 10. To work effectively as individually, so in a team, understand the importance of lifelong learning; understand the impact of specific production engineering solutions on society and the environment. Activities of teaching and learning: Teaching themes, case study, discussions, seminars, work in groups, brainstorming, and preparation of course papers, self-study papers and practice reports, as well as their presentation and defense. Practice is provided in the computer classrooms, simulation laboratories, wood shops, real production base. Internships are carried out in the woodworking training workshops and laboratories of Kaunas College, in the Kaunas-based Wood Technology and Furniture Manufacturing Innovation Centre, and in the most advanced companies of furniture and woodworking industry of Lithuania. Methods of assessment of learning achievements: The evaluation is performed using the individual accumulative assessment system, ten point grading system. The quality of course papers, practical and self-study works, reports and presentations is assessed together with the active participation in seminars or the level of the works prepared for the reviews (portfolio method). Framework: Study subjects (modules), practical training: General subjects of college studies – 15 credits: Contemporary Lithuanian and Correspondence, Foreign Language, Introduction to Philosophy, Basics of Psychology. Study field subjects – 138 credits: Basic of Automation Control Systems, Engineering Graphics, Applied Research, Statistics and Data Processing, Mathematics, Physics, Mechanics, Structural Materials, Lumber Drying, Electrical Engineering, Transportation Systems, Human Safety, Materials Science, Computer Aided Design of Furniture Assemblies, Primary Wood Process, Parametric Furniture Design, Wood Cutting Theory and Tools, Production Equipment, Glued Materials Production Technology, Standardization and Quality Control, Design of Automation Systems, Basics of Law, Business Economics and Management. Practices – 30 credits: Introductory Practice, Qualification Practice, Technology Internship, Final Practice. Professional Bachelor Thesis – 11 credits. Specialisations:

- Deeper specialization within the study field/other study field – 27 credits: Mandatory subjects – 18 credits: Furniture Production Technology, Enterprise Engineering, Finishing and Packaging Technology. Free elective subjects – 9 credits: Technologies of Human, Basics of Design, Special Design, Rational Production Projects, Innovation and Design of New Products, Social Psychology. Students can select the studies of free elective subjects from different study programmes. The list of Kaunas University of Applied Sciences optional subjects is published in the online learning platform Moodle. Distinctive features of a study programme: - The study programme of Furniture Manufacturing Technologies is the only programme of this field in Lithuanian colleges. - The practical work is organized in the best Lithuanian and foreign companies. - Students have opportunity to present their professional skills in international specialized exhibitions, participate in the workshops, etc. Access to professional activity or further study: Access to professional activity: Upon completion of this study programme student graduates are able to work as operators of technology lines, technologists, and head of production in various size companies. The graduates know the technological processes, devices, construction of products and the materials used for their manufacturing. Access to further study: Graduates of this study programme can continue studies at master degree level at Lithuania (Kaunas University of Technology) or foreign higher education institutions in accordance with the procedure established by the institutions.
