Summary of the Profile

Objective(s) of a study programme:
To train qualified professionals who understand the processes of modern organizations and are able to apply the latest information technologies in the design and management of information systems. A comprehensive curriculum of the program covers key aspects of information systems development and management and provides prospective IT system professionals with the necessary skills to: critically analyze organizational initiatives and decisions related to implementation and optimization of information systems at various levels in a constantly changing area environment.
Learning outcomes:
The graduate of the Information Systems Management study program acquires theoretical and practical knowledge and is able to design information systems, implement them, analyze them, and to forecast their development; the graduate will be also able to conduct evaluations of information systems in accord with generally accepted standards and regulations; to apply knowledge of information and communication science, informatics as well as other sciences in order to improve organization, administration, management of information systems of organizations. The graduate knows the principles of strategic management of information services, is able to systematize and analyze the internal and external information environment of organizations, information needs, empirical data of communication research, is able to apply data creatively and flexibly in practice, solving specific problems of information and knowledge management. The graduates are also able to think analytically and critically evaluate situations arising in professional activities.
Activities of teaching and learning:
Case studies, problem-based learning, modeling of situations, collaborative learning, individual and group work, discussion, development of critical thinking.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
The main form of evaluation is an examination. Examination can be either written or written and oral. Student’s knowledge and general performance during the exam are evaluated using grading scale from 1 (insufficient) to 10 (excellent).

The curriculum of the Information Systems Management study program consists of four interrelated blocks of disciplines that provide key competencies in information systems management based on knowledge of information, economics, law and information systems technologies. The theoretical content of the program consists of Information and Communication and Computer Science subjects. The program is of an expanding nature, hence the students will acquire interdisciplinary knowledge and skills in information and communication, economics, computer science and law that will lead to constructive application of acquired theoretical knowledge in practice: the graduates will be able to evaluate and use newest tools of information and knowledge management, information systems development, and evaluation.

Web programming; Intellectual property law; Evaluation and improvement of software development processes; Strategic management and operational efficiency.

The program prepares qualified professionals, whose distinguishing feature is the ability to apply scientific knowledge of information and communication, computer science, as well as other fields for the development, organization, administration and management of information systems using critical and analytical thinking and holistic approach to transformations in work environment.

The graduate can work in the information and telecommunications industry, which includes information systems development, e-commerce, network application development, computer engineering, multimedia development, information technology projects, consulting and training, information management, data mining, etc.

A graduate of the program is able to continue studies on tertiary level and to seek PhD degree in the field of communication and information science.
