Summary of the Profile

General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
Objective of Human Geography study program – to prepare qualified human geographers, to foster their competences oriented to knowledge economy, to research development problems of Lithuania’s society and economy, to implement the principles of sustainable development in solutions of spatial problems in the context of the Baltic Sea region and the EU.
Learning outcomes:
1. To know the activities of economic branches of world's countries and regions, their diversity and classifications, the factors of uneven geographic distribution, regularities and their interaction to social demographic, economic, cultural indicators of society's and economy's development.
2. To understand the newest trends in urbanistic, marine transport, recreation and tourism, to determine spatial development problems, conflicts, alternatives, to know and understand the importance of human geography in problems' solution, elaboration of strategic approach, decision-making.
3. To analyse the newest problems and scientific researches in respective field of studies, to combine both elements of theory and practice, to understand the newest problematics of development of society and economic branches, alternatives of decisions, to analyse and assess complex insights for the prognosis of researching processes and their further territorial modelling.
4. To understand financial mechanisms of the EU measures for regional development, regional development programmes and their value added, to prepare the projects' applications, to analyse the possibilities (to prepare the feasibility studies), to elaborate project budget, to understand principles of project management, to analyse national, the EU and other programmes, their requirements and practical application for project elaboration.
5. To work with Geographic information systems (GIS), Statistical package for social sciences (SPSS), to develop geodata bases for execution of researches, to understand the application of cartographic (mapping) methods, to assess and to determine the meanings of modelling processes in the analysis of societal spatial processes, to applicate remote sensing methods for execution of spatial (territorial) processes and their analysis.
6. To determine and to assess the data (statistical, descriptive) for spatial modelling of societal processes, to develop methodical sequences for implementation of researches.
7. To understand and to assess the importance of holistic approach in different geographic problems and in decision-making.
