Summary of the Profile

General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
To prepare specialists of urban engineering information systems. The graduates will be able to: plan, forecast, design, manage and supervise transport systems and urban development at regional and local level, connect communication systems and other urban infrastructure in planning process; a specialist will be able to think creatively and critically, use modern information technologies, apply science and technology innovations, solve engineering problems of city systems, economically evaluate and substantiate rational design, provide technological and supervisory solutions.
Learning outcomes:
Knowledge:
Knowledge about modern research methods of urban transport systems engineering, engineering analysis tools and optimization methods.
Knowledge about city's transport engineering information systems, its planning, design, management and supervision methodologies and technologies; ability to apply them when doing an independent research work and developing engineering ideas.
Research skills:
The graduates will be able to apply the principles of urban engineering, determine the importance of interaction between different directions and areas of knowledge, integrate the information when solving problematic issues of urban transport and urban engineering information systems.
The graduates will be able to plan and carry out a research, find and evaluate the data that is necessary for engineering research, use databases and other sources of information when solving problems in the areas of planning, development, modernization and rationalization of urban areas and communication systems, assess the impact of transport on environment, and to develop impact's mitigation measures.
Engineering Analysis:
The graduates will be able to recognize, analyze, combine standard and non-standard urban areas and engineering problems, intelligibly formulate tasks for solving these problems by applying mathematical analysis, calculative modeling and experimental research methods.
The graduates will be able to analyze urban communication and engineering information systems, optimize technological processes, recognize and solve problems, apply different methods, evaluate and summarize results, formulate conclusions.
Engineering design:
The graduates will be able to apply knowledge and understanding when identifying and solving urban engineering and communication problems in practical activities, understand the limits of application of analytical methods; a specialist will be able to evaluate the results of a research, model and determine reliability of it, submit recommendations for development of a research.
The graduates will understand and select the appropriate design solutions that are necessary for urban engineering information systems, urban spatial planning, also, to solve engineering system development tasks, represent a city, and develop thematic digital maps using GIS tools.
Engineering practice ability:
The graduates will be able to integrate knowledge into different fields, independently develop, formulate and provide socially responsible proposals; understand the principles and processes of complex and special spatial planning organization according to their levels and investment projects, analytical studies, etc. and prepare it; ability to foster the transmissibility and continuity of knowledge and skills and to bring their knowledge in line with a new needs.
The graduates will understand that decisions that are made often give ethical, technical, economic and social consequences and they are responsible for it, they will understand risk management and safety conditions, substantiate their research findings and conclusions, make them comprehensible and present orally and in written to various audiences and general public.
Personal and social abilities:
The graduates will be able to work independently and in a team, be a leader in a team that can be formed of representatives from various levels; also, to prepare scientific papers and publications, participate in scientific discussions, communicate with engineering community and general public.
The graduates will holisticly understand the impact of engineering decisions that are made on society and the environment, will be able to adhere to the norms of professional ethics and engineering, will be fully aware of the responsibility for engineering activities; will understand urban management and will be able to understand the links between his proposed solutions and economic implications.
