Summary of the Profile

Objective(s) of a study programme:
The aim of the programme is to give theoretical and practical knowledge, which allows one to understand the basics of electronics and telecommunications, to design electronics, to perform engineering analysis and to solve engineering problems. Engineers are being prepared for the work in electronics, telecommunications and high-tech companies.

Learning outcomes:
1. Know most important laws of physics and mathematical methods, which are necessary to understand fundamentals of electronics and telecommunications.
2. Know the most important concepts of electronics and telecommunications and will have theoretical background in electronics and telecommunications.
3. Be able to apply obtained knowledge practically when solving electronics engineering problems, will be able to choose analytical and modelling methods.
4. Be able to analyse electronic schematics and telecommunication systems and will be able to understand and explain their operation.
5. Be able to design and test the functionality of simple electronic circuits according to predefined requirements.
6. Understand and will be able to apply design methods.
7. Be able to find necessary information by using databases and other scientific and engineering information sources, will understand the importance of lifelong learning.
8. Have experience working with electronic devices, will be able to perform experiments, perform data analysis and draw conclusions.
9. Be able to organize group work, to take responsibility for devoted task and to plan their own work.
10. Be able to present their own work in oral and written form.
Activities of teaching and learning:
Lectures, tutorials, laboratory works, seminars, self-study (reading of literature and completion of assignments), analysis of papers and their presentation, problem based teaching, group work, preparation of written works, discussions, scientific and work practices, consultations, project works.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Written and(or) oral exams, tests, written works, defence of scientific and work practices reports, defence of final thesis, self-reflections, defence of laboratory works, presentations, evaluation of self-work assignments, peer-review and peer-assesment.
Framework:
Study subjects (modules), practical training:
Subjects on Electronics and Telecommunication (90 credits), Physics (40 credits), Mathematics (25 credits), elective subjects (5 credits), gerenal university modules (15 credits), Introduction to Programming (5 credits), English (5 credits), Basics in Law (5 credits), Management (5 credits).
Optional courses:
During fourth semester of studies students will be able to choose one of two following subjects (5 credits) : Fundamentals of Photonics or Routing in Local Networks

During period of studies students will be able to choose three (each 5 credits) gerenal university modules from variuos fields taught in VU: Rethorics, Entrepreneurship Psichoactive materials, Logics, Political Geography, Psichology and more than 80 other subjects.
Distinctive features of a study programme:
Study programme covers all of design aspects from contruction to innovative programming problems for newest eletronics and telecommunication systems and devices. Students will aquire unique skills not only in electronics and telecommunication but in programming as well.

Graduates will be able to pursue career paths in electronics, high-tech and telecomunication institutions which develop, use and(or) sell electronic components and appliances, developing and implementing new technological solutions, providing telecommunication services, working in information transfer area, developing positioning systems.

Master studies in study fields of Engineering, Physical Sciences or Technologies in Lithuania or abroad.
