Summary of the Profile

Objective(s) of a study programme:

To train environmental engineering specialists who would be able to critically observe, analyse and evaluate various global, regional and local environmental protection measures, analyse and evaluate environmental pollution problems.
To develop abilities of choosing and implementing technical and technological solutions and predicting the impact on the environment and professionally addressing emerging environmental problems.
To develop the knowledge and abilities to apply practical and analytical skills in public and private environmental protection institutions and to train a specialist capable of integrating into the labour market and improving his/her qualifications independently or in further studies.
Learning outcomes:

The graduate will know the environmental pollution control methods used to determine the current situation.
The graduate will be able to:
- apply the knowledge of the Fundamental Sciences in the area of environmental protection;
- adapt methodologies of anthropogenic pollution prevention to the needs of organisations;
- evaluate qualitative and quantitative indicators of water and wastewater in water management facilities;
- analyse technological processes in water management facilities;
- assess the state of the environment in the specific environment;
- select possible ways of waste management to reduce environmental pollution;
- analyse structures of engineering networks in water management facilities;
- select advanced waste management technologies in accordance with the specific needs of the object;
- adapt to the constant changes in professional activities;
- assess business environment organising company activities.
Activities of teaching and learning:
To achieve the student achievements presentation methods of teaching are applied (lectures, demonstration, discussion, group work, design, etc.); active work methods (seminars, workshops, laboratory sessions, practices) when information is combined with the task, student is given situations close to the situations of professional activities where the student is an active participant of the study process, makes decisions and is responsible for them (situation analysis)
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Ten-grade criterion-based assessment system and accumulative assessment is applied. Semester students learning achievements are assessed during current assessments (précis, control works are written, projects are carried out, laboratory works are described and orally defended, etc.). The studies of every subject end with examination or assessment of the student’s self-study work (project). Current assessment (mark) and examination grades (work/project) comprise final assessment. Its composition is provided according to the proportions indicated in the subject description.
Framework:
Study subjects (modules), practical training:

Scope of the main part of study field subjects is 135 credits (including practical training).
Key subjects: General Ecology, Chemistry, Hydraulics, Materials Science, Technical Mechanics, Engineering And Computer Graphics Environmental Microbiology, Environmental Studies, Engineering Networks, Pollution Prevention And Control, Water Processing, Environmental Informatics, Wastewater Treatment Technologies, Systems Of Automatic Management Of Technological Processes and etc.
Practice of professional activities: Environmental Control practice , Environmental Risk Assessment practice (placement), practice (Placement) Of Water Processing and Water Treatment Technology, Final practice. Duration of the practice of professional activities is 20 weeks.
