General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
To prepare nurses who are able to organise and implement patient care and education in an innovative and high-quality manner, to assess the effectiveness of nursing care, to protect and care for patients' health, to collaborate with other institutions, pharmaceutical and healthcare professionals, to take part in applied nursing research and to develop the practice of nursing.
Learning outcomes:
A graduate:
1.1 Be able to apply the legislation governing health care in the implementation of nursing care.
1.2 Be able to relate knowledge of the person's health status and physical and social environment to the planning, implementation and evaluation of care and/or nursing interventions.
1.3 Apply knowledge of education, psychology and nursing sciences in planning personal and/or community health education.
2.1 Be able to collect data from applied research in nursing science and summarise the results.
2.2 Be able to apply research findings to specific nursing and innovation problems.
3.1 Be able to identify the nursing needs of the patient and/or the community and to plan and organise nursing care.
3.2 Be able to carry out nursing interventions and evaluate nursing outcomes.
3.3 Be able to involve individuals, families and groups in the management of health problems.
3.4 Identify the impact of lifestyle and environmental risk factors on nursing care to encourage individuals, families and groups to lead healthy lives and take care of their health.
3.5 Be able to initiate crisis and disaster relief, and independently initiate and implement non-emergency life-saving measures in crisis and disaster situations.
4.1 Be able to communicate and collaborate effectively within the healthcare team in the implementation of the nursing process, including participation in practical training of healthcare workers.

5.1 Be able to select learning strategies and methods for personal development in professional practice, guided by science-based knowledge of the nursing profession.

5.3. Be able to independently assure and evaluate the quality of nursing care, and analyse the quality of nursing care in order to improve their professional practice as a general nurse.
Activities of teaching and learning:
The course includes a range of student-centred, interactive teaching methods (reflection, observation, analysis of good practice, making and justifying assumptions) and evidence-based practice (EBP) teaching methods. EBP training focuses on preparing the learner to be an evidence practitioner. The learning process involves simulation training in an established Nursing Simulation Training Centre based on real clinical situations or standardised procedural protocols.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
The modules are completed by an exam or a project work, depending on the results of the study programme. The studies are carried out and the students' knowledge and skills are assessed using a ten-point criterion-based assessment system. The examination format for general modules is complex (written and oral questioning, tests, etc.), while the examination format for modules in the field of study developing specific subject competences is an objective structured clinical situation using simulated patients.

Therapeutic and geriatric nursing, Module 6. Maternal and Child Nursing, Module 7. Special Care Nursing, Module 8. Community Health and Research, Fundamentals of Nursing Thesis Development.
Practice: 2nd semester – General Nursing Practice (9 ECTS); 3d semester - Geriatric Nursing Practice (9 ECTS), Therapeutic Nursing Practice (6 ECTS); 4th semester - Pregnancy Care (6 ECTS), Pediatric Health Care and Nursing Practice (6 ECTS); 5th semester - Intensive Care Practice (9 ECTS), Surgical Nursing Practice (9 ECTS); 6 semester - Community Nursing Practice (9 ECTS), Psychic Health Nursing Practice (9 ECTS), Semester 7: Final Practice and Supervision (18 ECTS).

Distinctive features of a study programme:
General Practice Nursing study programme is the only one study programme of Nursing and Midwife study field implemented at Utena University of Applied Sciences. The programme is based on the five-step evidence-based practice curriculum and Bruner's 'spiral' learning model.

The graduates of General Practice Nursing study programme will be able to engage in independent practice of general practice nurse or to work in healthcare institutions of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd level, health care establishments under the ministries of National Defence and the Interior, facilities providing social services - care facilities for healthy individuals and the disabled of all ages, private health care institutions and carry out the following, the functions assigned to them: to organise and deliver patient nursing care and education, assess the effectiveness of nursing care, protect and look after patient health, collaborate with other institutions, work in a health care team, administer nursing care interventions and develop the practice of nursing care.
Access to further study:
After completion of Professional Bachelor in General Practice Nursing studies, the graduates are able to continue studies in the study programmes of health or other sciences.
