Summary of the Profile

Objective(s) of a study programme:

The objectives of the study programme School Pedagogy are: to help students possessing a bachelor degree in a subject taught at school to acquire pedagogical education including theoretical knowledge and abilities, practical skills and values necessary for work as subject teachers in different types of lower and upper secondary schools and for performance of all pedagogical functions.
Learning outcomes:

Students will acquire:
1.1.ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with students, their parents, collegues, educational support specialists and non-specialists participating in educational process, taking into consideration personal or group development level and cultural context;
2.1.ability to identify, evaluate and solve pedagogical practical problems and make professional decisions, having (in)sufficient information in context related to pedagogical practice;
3.1. ability to reflect upon one‘s professional activity, to organize personal and group learning, within a LLL perspective of professional development;
4.1. knowledge and understanding of multidisciplinary (philosofical, psychological, managerial and social) aspects of (non) formal school education;
4.2. ability and commitment to respond to diverse students‘ needs, their cognitive, physical, emotional development pecularities related to learning process;
5.1. ability to independently plan, organize and assess teaching /learning process, student‘s progress while applying contemporary educational technologies and learning problems solving strategies;
5.2. ability to manage the classroom and perform teacher and class supervisor functions creating the climate and learning environment, which promote the development of cultural traditions, moral values, respect and tolerance to other cultures;
6.1. ability to apply pedagogical and psychological knowledge and pedagogical (didactic) strategies in activities related to one‘s subject promoting positive student relationships, cooperative learning, social and learning problem solving;
6.2. ability to analize and critically evaluate practical situations and to adjust the curriculum and learning methods to specific educational contexts and students‘ learning needs;
7.1. ability to write, present and defend a final thesis based on action research, on theoretical and empirical analysis of the chosen pedagogical problem.
Activities of teaching and learning:
Active lectures, seminars, group discussions, independent study, text analytical reading, comparative analysis, brainstorming, essay writing, problem case and situation analysis, planning and organization of pedagogical activities, individual and groupwork, practice observations, assisting, lesson delivery, reporting, project work.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Formative (acumulative) and summative assessment of all modules using a 10 scores system, choosing assessment methods providing evidence about achievement of learning outcomes; assessment of individual and group tasks (lesson plans, delivery and performance of different activities), presentations, analytical reports on individual and group activities, essays, portfolios, pedagogical practice (self)reflections and (self)assessment, final thesis, its presentation and defence.

Distinctive features of a study programme:
Students choose subject didactics and pedagogical practice corresponding to the 1st cycle study field and acquired bachelor degree. Upon successful study programme completion graduates are awarded the qualification of the pedagogue.
