Summary of the Profile

Objective(s) of a study programme:

On the basis of achievements in international level fundamental and applied interdisciplinary science and technologies, to train a university level Master of Sports possessing all-rounded education, ethically responsible, creative and enterprising personality who is able to carry out research on the efficiency of athlete training models and their interaction with fitness, systemize the latest knowledge of athlete training technologies and convey it to the academic and professional community.
Learning outcomes:

Programme graduate will be able to:
1. Find and understand of modern scientific ideas stemming from fundamental and applied interdisciplinary research and proven practices.
2. Know the influence of different philosophical tendencies on the formation of science, theoretical concepts of research methods and methodological substantiation of research on athlete training technologies.
3. Organize and critically evaluate research-based information, make conclusions and present them.
4. Apply the principles of communication and cooperation in the academic and social environment.
5. Cooperate and work in a team with specialists in other fields carrying out research, training athletes, transferring knowledge.
6. Organize the latest knowledge on athlete training technologies and convey it to academic and professional audiences in written form or otherwise.
7. Organize and manage projects according to changing circumstances.
8. Manage the activities of a group; make decisions under the changing conditions of environmental challenges.
9. Select strategies for improvement.
10. Inspired colleagues to take interest in modern achievements of fundamental and applied research and to encourage team work to develop new technologies and apply them in practice.
11. Independently find international cooperation partners.
12. Independently analyze and evaluate functional relationships of the human body.
13. Independently investigate, analyze and evaluate specific functional strengths and limiting factors of persons engaged in sports.
14. Independently analyze causal functional relationships of motor control.
15. Substantiate the application of modern principles of sports coaching as well as models of multiannual sports coaching.
16. Analyze the latest methods of sports training and the development of motor abilities, and be able to produce arguments for the individual athlete training.
17. Analyze and critically evaluate research methods on the interactions of athlete training models and fitness.
18. Formulate research hypothesis, aim and objectives, select an adequate research strategy, methods and protocol, carry out research, and provide research conclusions.
19. Organize research on professional activities.
20. Give arguments on the individual strengths and weaknesses of athlete’s fitness; substantiate trends of improvement of athlete mastery.
21. Select individual sports training management methods to be applied.
22. Select ergogenic measures to promote the increase in the powers of athletes’ bodies and to accelerate recovery after loads, as well as to determine their effectiveness.
Activities of teaching and learning:

Information transfer based methods: lectures (contact and distance), counselling, and dissemination of information sources.
Student activity and reflection based methods: group discussion, case analysis, seminars and workshops, preparation of research protocols, practical classes, and reports at conferences.
Task-based methods: empirical and analytical research, scientific papers, projects, preparation of research articles.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Oral assessment methods: scientific report, presentations of tasks.
Written assessment methods: reviews, research papers, case studies, examination – open, closed or combined testing.
Integrated (written and oral) assessment methods: evaluation of project work and Master’s Thesis.

Programa parengta remiantis tarptautinės ekspertų grupės 2007 metais atlikto išsamiojo vertinimo išvadomis, taip pat Europos 15 universitetų treniravimo mokslų magistrinių studijų aprašu. Tai unikali studijų programa, rengianti sporto magistrą, įgysiantį šiuolaikinių sportininkų treniravimo technologijų žinių, gebantį atlikti mokslo tyrimus, juos taikyti valdant sportininkų treniravimo vyksmą, perteikti sportininkų treniravimo technologijų naujausias žinias kitiems treneriams. Sporto magistrai gebės konkuruoti tarptautinėje trenerių veiklos rinkoje.
