Summary of the Profile
Objective(s) of a study programme:
To prepare specialists who:
1. would have consistent, deep and wide special knowledge in History, abilities and competences as well as practical skills possible to apply in intellectual and practical work individually in cultural, heritage, tourism, science, education and other institutions, public and political organisations;
2. would have wide erudition, creative-critical thinking, ability to analyse independently, evaluate and solve past, present and future public problems, the need to be interested in world and national history, public, political and cultural events, heritage as necessary condition for further professional development, lifelong learning and civic participation;
3. would foster cultural traditions of historical memory, tolerance to other cultures, religions and opinions, would be able to orient in the environment of globalisation and depreciation of humanistic values;
4. would understand modern historical paradigms, their problems, would master and demonstrate practical application of scientific research methods.
Learning outcomes:
Having completed Bachelor’s study programme in History the students will:
1) be able to demonstrate knowledge and critical awareness of historical process, referring to historiographical knowledge and modern methodological approaches, will be able to apply them in practice;
2) be able to collect information independently, to critically examine and interpret the multilingual primary sources and different historical approaches, to evaluate historian's arguments, problems;
3) be able to apply knowledge in researches of regional-local history, to interpret their past phenomena in the common context of historical development;
4) understand significant Lithuanian social, political and cultural history aspects and will be able to apply them in a wider geographical and chronological perspective;
5) be able to evaluate the influence of the past on modern social, political, economic and cultural phenomena and processes;
6) be able to identify the value of own and national, religious (and other) identities, specificity, uniqueness;
7) be able to evaluate public-political phenomena and will participate in the process of formation of civic society and its values;
8) have independent learning skills necessary to continue learning in the second study cycle and to work in an interdisciplinary group of specialists while learning all the life;
9) have developed general competences of: civic position, communication (oral, written communication, creation of various texts), information (information search and its usage), organizational abilities (to organize applied historical researches, to design further process of self-education).
Activities of teaching and learning:
Activities emphasizing lecturer’s work: lectures, consultations; activities based on tasks and problem solving, insights: seminars, practices, essays, projects, course paper, Bachelor’s work; student’s individual work.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Written and oral exam, practice, presentation, critical case study, an essay; steady assessment .
