Summary of the Profile

General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
To train highly qualified health care professionals with special theoretical and practical knowledge of legal science and skills. They will be able to apply legal science knowledge, solve legal problems in personal and public health care and in other areas of practical application of biomedical biotechnology sciences.
Learning outcomes:
Acquisition of specific legal knowledge, which necessary for successful activities in the healthcare system.
Information management, taht is to say the ability to select, analyze and critically evaluate information from a variety of sources for a specific legal situation.
Tracking the latest developments in the healthcare system and evaluating them in a legal and ethical perspective. Finding solutions in new and legally significant problem situations.
Ability by oneself analyze new legal sources, systematize and summarize them.
Ability to provide ethical and socially responsible solutions in situations of legal uncertainty, integrating the theoretical knowledge of the private, public, international, EU and other legal fields, practical experience and knowledge of national and international court practice.
Ability to find and critically select sources of law, biomedical and other science data and integrate existing information.
Ability to characterize the nature of a problem situation or dispute.
Ability to provide the ways and means of settling the situation for the parties to the dispute.
Ability to clearly convey expert conclusions with evaluation of sources of law for the audience of lawyers, biomedicine, politics, management professionals.
Ability to formulate decisions that are aimed at regulating, improving and proposing legal relationships in the field of health care and biomedicine and and influence the decision-making process through the legal capacity of organized civil society.
Activities of teaching and learning:
Teaching and learning activities are student-centered. They could be divided into such groups: (1) to acquire academic knowledge for students (including academic lectures and student self-study, etc.), (2) developing students‘ collaboration skills in the social environment (this activity is mainly based on group work); (3) gaining student knowledge, 4) students' independent problem-solving skills development (teaching activities based on problem solving during practical classes and self-study), (5) students' critical thinking (based on student insights) and (6) reflection - emphasis is placed on the feedback of the teacher and the student.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Self-evaluation, evaluation of others, presentations, group discussion, research work, test of theoretical knowledge, control work, oral reports, questions - answers, problem solving tasks, different types of reports, group discussion, creative tasks.

Study subjects (modules), practical training:
The total volume of the study program is 60 credits. All subjects in the program are the main field of study. All the subjects included in the program are in-depth. Each individual course of the program provides knowledge in the relevant field of health law. Student during studies will acquire special knowledge through core subjects - Legal Responsibility for Healthcare Institutions, Protection of Human Rights in Health, Legal Basis for Data Management and Data Security, Public Health Law, Biotechnology. They will be able to fully meet current labor market needs related to knowledge of a specific area of health law. 5 subjects are studied in every semester.
Specialisations:

Optional courses:
Students have the right to study according to an individual plan, to complete their studies in less time.
Students have the right to choose from alternatives subjects: Pharmaceutical Law or Public Procurement Law.
Distinctive features of a study programme:
Currently there are no similar study programs offered in Lithuanian higher education institutions. Health Law LL. M. Program will be the only such Master's program which is provided by Mykolas Romeris University. The program focuses on professionals - practitioners working in the health system.

Access to professional activity:
Graduate of Master of Laws LL.M. in Health Law, gaining access to various types of legal work in public service, personal and public health care institutions, and administrative work in healthcare field.
Graduates of the program who do not hold a bachelor's degree in law will not be eligible to graduate from the class as a lawyer (e.g., attorney, judge, prosecutor, notary or bailiff).
