General Description:
Objective(s) of a study program:
Train highly qualified specialists – physical therapiest who are able to provide physiotherapy services based on modern scientific research, covering examination and assessment of the patient's clinical status, determination of the need for physiotherapy and physical therapy diagnosis, treatment planning, implementation and assessment of efficiency, promoting healthy lifestyles and education, understanding the importance of lifelong learning, intelligent importance of lifelong learning , working independently and in a team of rehabilitation specialists.
Learning outcomes:
1. Know the provisions of national and international health policy.
2. Know the limits of professional activities and responsibility, apply the provisions of health law and administration acts as well as professional ethics in the practice of physical therapy, provide consultation within the limits of professional competence.
3. Know and apply the knowledge of the natural, biomedical, social, humanitarian sciences, with systematic assessment physical factors and ergonomic features on the personal growth and development, age and gender and the effect of physical therapy on the human body.
4. Comply with personal and environmental hygiene requirements, analyze and apply occupational safety principles.
5. Comply with research ethics principles, carry out applied physical therapy research, analyze, generalize and present research results and apply them in solving physical therapy problems (issues).
6. Assess the condition of the person, his perception and communication, the need for the measures of competence, orthopedic, and technical assistance.
7. Assess and measure the person's physical and physiological data, motivation, independence and endurance as well as psychomotor development of the newborns and babies and motor development of children.
8. Apply positional treatment and physical actions, perform therapeutic exercises, massage, compression and hydro therapy by gravity- assisted compression devices.
9. Choose and apply movement technical aids and orthopedic technical aids.
10. Based on the information about a person's health condition, determine physiotherapy diagnosis and forecast, make a physical therapy plan and evaluate the effectiveness of physical therapy.
11. Develop personal healthy lifestyle principles and skills, organize and implement health education, provide consultations according to health education needs.
12. Communicate and collaborate with individuals and their families in dealing with personal health problems, work in a team with colleagues and other specialists.
13. Fluently and convincingly express themselves orally and in writing, communicate effectively in Lithuanian and foreign language in their professional environment, recognize the diversity of people and cross-cultural differences.
14. Critically evaluate the professional practice of physical therapy, understand the importance of lifelong learning, make independent decisions and evaluate their impact in practical physical therapy situations, use their practical knowledge and take responsibility.
15. Collect and organize personal health-related information, use modern technology and information systems in physical therapy practice, properly deal with personal confidential information and comply with the principles of ethics and deontology.
Activities of teaching and learning:
Innovative teaching/learning methods and virtualization of the study process are applied. The studies are student-oriented, based on student’s independent work tasks and group work, where problematic and critical thinking is very important. Educational environment for students is created where there is a possibility to control their own study process, reflect upon their activities, foster creativity and innovation.
The program is aimed at students’ active participation in the study process: creating a discussion environment in the lecture, fostering a teacher-student dialog to avoid a monolog format.
Methods of assessment of learning achievement:
Assessment of learning outcomes is a part of the study process. Assessment of a subject learning outcomes is carried out during the semester and the exam session.
Via application of accumulative assessment study results are evaluated by interim settlements. An interim settlement includes evaluation of student‘s tasks, knowledge and skills acquired upon completion of a particular subject of studies (questioning (oral and written) colloquia, written assignments, practical work, tests, etc.).During the exam session assessment of all student‘s knowledge and skills is carried out.
Student‘s knowledge and skills are assessed during the exam session only if he fulfilled all the tasks and requirements of interim assessment provided for in the description of the subject.
The form of assessment applied during the exam session is an exam or presentation of the work. During the exam, student‘s knowledge and skills are assessed by grades from 1 to 10. The final grade comprises the grades of interim settlements and the exam. Its structure is calculated according to the proportions provided for in the course unit description.

The study program is focused not only on special professional competencies but also on developing of a wide range of core skills and values, necessary competencies for a present-day physical therapy, based on knowledge transfer and adoption, analysis, critical assessment and search for solutions to problems.

Access to professional activity:
A graduate can work as a physical therapy in all levels of health care, personal health care institutions: hospitals, outpatient clinics, rehabilitation centers, children education institutions, health centers, health offices, private clinics, palliative and nursing institutions, and sport clubs. A physical therapy administers, prepares and carries out various national and international projects and programs.
Access to further study:
Graduates can pursue transfer of study results in university first cycle studies. Upon completion of the supplementary studies they are entitled to the second cycle master studies.
