Summary of the Profile

General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
To prepare modern qualified business management specialists who are able to apply the acquired skills in practice, have the necessary competencies, skills to analyze and critically evaluate the activities of the tourism sector, create and develop them according to the principles of sustainable development and ecotourism, successfully combining ecotourism goals with economics, management, marketing, finance, psychology, law and adapting to the modern information technology environment, based on Christian morality, constantly improving and striving to contribute to the sustainable development of the country.
After three (four) years of study, a professional bachelor's degree in Business Management is awarded. After graduation, students know the specifics of work in tourism organizations, in order to achieve their efficiency in terms of sustainability, can apply the acquired competencies working in both business and public sector (national and regional park administrations, botanical and zoological gardens, public sector, tourism information centers, rural tourism homesteads) or start their own business.
Learning outcomes:
1. Knowing the content and principles of sustainable development of the ecotourism activities, the legal documents governing the (eco)tourism activities, ecotourism resources, marketing principles, students will be able to apply comprehensively the acquired knowledge in practice, based on ecoconsciousness, Christian morality, intercultural and ethnic values.
2. By using modern information technologies, students will be able to collect and interpret in a reasoned way the data necessary for decision-making, and will be able to foresee the development prospects of tourism, ecotourism and recreation activities based on principles of sustainable development.
3. By making independent innovative decisions in the constantly changing tourism sector, students will be able to plan, organize and evaluate activities in their field, using information technologies, taking into account environmental, social and economic aspects, based on principles of cross-cultural communication consumer and competitor behavior and business ethics.
4. Students will be able to communicate responsibly and professionally with the market participants, business partners and customers within the national and international context in Lithuanian and foreign languages, demonstrating their professional, managerial, social skills; by applying principles of business communication.
5. Students will be able to critically evaluate and independently develop their professional and personal skills, considering the constantly changing professional environment and needs of the market, demonstrating responsibility for the impact of activities and their results, and in accordance with ecoconsciousness and Christian morality.
Activities of teaching and learning:
Lectures, exercises, seminars, discussions, practices, lectures outside the College, visiting companies, various organizations, lectures in the library, analyzing spec. resources, working with databases, joint lectures - by combining several academic groups from different study programs and combining several subjects, there are roundtable discussions, guest lecturers, guests, internship lectures to share practical experience, present situations and cases from companies analysis, situation analysis, experiments.

Optional subjects: two elective subjects from the list provided by the College.
Internships: While studying in the Ecotourism program, students at Kolping University of Applied Sciences gain a wide range of theoretical and practical knowledge. During the studies, five different internships are performed, during which as many as 90% of students are invited to stay to work! The first practice is cognitive. During the internship they get acquainted with eco-thinking institutions and organizations. This practice introduces a critical and constructive approach to assessing the environment in which tourism operates, based on the principles of sustainable development. The second practice - getting acquainted with the tourism industry, visiting the Tourism Fair. During this internship, students are introduced to the tourism industry, tourism planning and classification. They go to the Tourism Fair, where they analyze and classify the participating companies, analyze their activities, marketing decisions. The third is the practice of a guide. During this internship, students learn to lead ecotourism tours, get acquainted with the provision of ecotourism services by organizing travel and excursion routes. The fourth internship is a monthly internship in a tourism company. Students choose a company and carry out an individual internship in it, working on the assigned work, analyzing the company's activities, solving various situations and making decisions. Finally, during the final internship, students learn to behave in non-standard situations, to resolve conflicts related to the activities of an ecotourism company, to improve a responsible attitude towards society and to evaluate its behavior towards nature. During it, she conducts research for her bachelor's thesis and acquires ecotourism competence.

Ecotourism is a study program designed for people who want to protect nature, improve the well-being of local people, plan trips responsibly, establish harmonious relations with the natural world and its inhabitants. Ecotourism is the only study program in Lithuania that combines managerial, tourism and sustainable competencies, creating a unique ecotourism competence.
By participating in mobility programs, students can spend part of their study time in foreign higher education institutions and / or do internships abroad.

After choosing to study ecotourism, students often discover the real dream job - cognitive trips around nature, get acquainted with plants, forests, lakes, start organizing cycling ecotourism trips, excursions around rural areas, create ecotourism routes, engage in guide services. Future ecotourism professionals are employed in various eco-thinking organizations, such as botanical gardens, zoos, various hotels, airports, travel agencies. Students, inclined to the organization of events, willingly find employment in non-governmental organizations, municipalities, set up their own businesses, organize trips, activities, camps, introducing the concept of a sustainable world. After graduating from the Ecotourism program, graduates acquire competencies that allow them to effectively plan, organize and implement ecotourism activities, to create conditions for people to get to know the world through ecotourism trips.
