Summary of the Profile

Objective(s) of a study programme:
To train a socially active theatre art specialist (actor or director) who knows theatre art from historical and theoretical points of view, is able to work professionally and creatively in the country’s artistic and cultural processes, can realise own artistic ideas in the international cultural space, work independently and collaborate, is willing to learn, improve and to use previously obtained physical, emotional and cognitive qualities for artistic expression.
The aim of minor studies in pedagogy is to prepare a specialist who is able to work in the pedagogical field in formal and non-formal education institutions, has a system of pedagogical, psychological and theatrical knowledge and is able to apply them in practice (specialisation – Theatre and Event directing).

Learning outcomes:
The graduate will know the most important works and creators from Lithuanian theatres and abroad as well as stages of theatre development, know the traditions of theatre art of different styles and forms as well as peculiarities of organizing cultural events (Theatre and Event directing); will be able to use the acquired knowledge in practical creative work.
The graduate will understand the theoretical and practical principles of performing arts and be able to relate them to each other.
The graduate will understand the processes and significance of theatre art in the general context of culture, art, science and social issues.
The graduate will have a system of pedagogical and psychological knowledge about the artistic education of children and youth, as well as systematic knowledge about the development of physical, cognitive, psychosocial, artistic abilities of children and youth (minor pedagogy studies).
The graduate will be able to express ideas fluently and argumentatively in oral and written forms when raising problematic issues, presenting creative ideas and substantiating his/her artistic and ideological significance.
The graduate will be able to independently accumulate, analyse, summarise and interpret information sources, identify the peculiarities of performing arts phenomena, systematise the acquired knowledge and draw conclusions.
The graduate will have acquired the skills of analysis and preparation of a creative project, allowing them to create and present (defend) works of performing arts in line with modern European theatrical art trends.
The graduate will be able to analyse and evaluate situations related to his/her professional activity, see relevant problems of artistic education, select and apply appropriate data collection methods, analyse and summarise data, and apply them in practice (minor pedagogy studies).
The graduate will be able to consciously use and combine physical, emotional and intellectual resources in a variety of theatrical contexts.
The graduate will have mastered the main principles of analysis, interpretation and creation of stage composition of dramatic material and will be able to apply them professionally in art projects.
The graduate will know the stages of preparation of a theatrical work and the work of workshops as well as the possibilities of using various technologies and applying them to stage creation.
The graduate will have the knowledge and skills of management, career management and entrepreneurship in order to be active and act as a professional in the contemporary art market and to present themselves in a variety of media.
The graduate will be able to plan, organise and manage the process of artistic education: he/she will be able to formulate goals, create educational content, select teaching materials as well as appropriate teaching/learning and assessment methods (minor pedagogy studies).
The graduate will be able to communicate and collaborate professionally, effectively and ethically with professionals in the field of arts and other fields, generate various creative ideas, look for opportunities to implement them, and apply adaptive skills when working in various social groups and multicultural environments.
Being aware of the social impact of his/her work, the graduate will be able to take responsibility for the ideological and artistic quality of his/her work as well as to evaluate and improve it.
The graduate will be able to use a variety of methods and strategies to communicate with his/her audience in an effective manner.
The graduate will be able to work and improve his/her skills independently, plan and systematically improve his/her professional competencies, adapt to new situations, use psycho-hygiene and personal organisational skills, and create in a competitive environment;
Using imagination, intuition, emotional intelligence and creative thinking, the graduate will be able to analyse and evaluate his/her own works, as well as works of his/her colleagues, and to constructively express and accept criticism.
The graduate will be able to communicate correctly, persuasively, professionally and convey information to the art community and other members of society.
The graduate will be able to take responsibility for the quality of his/her own and his/her team’s activities; will take the initiative when solving problems.

Activities of teaching and learning:
Basic teaching and learning methods: teaching (explanation, narration, illustration, demonstration), studies of literature, audio, video and other sources of information (demonstration, review, analysis, interpretation), active listening, use of students’ personal experience, data collection, project preparation, group work, group discussion, performance of practical tasks, creative exercises (brainstorming, mind maps), preparation and presentation of written works (reports), study portfolio, observation, presentation of personal experience, reflection, providing feedback; preparation and defence of the final work (creative project).
Main forms of contact work: individual and group theoretical and practical classes, consultations, rehearsals, independent work.

Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Assessment is an integral part of the study process and is, therefore, carried out on a regular basis through assessing and evaluating students’ independent work, presentations and individually-prepared tasks. Students’ knowledge is also assessed by the results of tests and exams.
The evaluation of student’s performance is based on a cumulative grading system, i.e., the final grade is composed of the evaluation of midterm tests and the final examination.
Methods of assessing study results: formative (work during group and individual sessions) and cumulative (summative) assessment: mid-term assessment, testing, oral and written survey, presentation of projects, reports; presentation and defence of the final work (project).
The evaluation of the examinations and the defence of the Final Thesis is based on the 10-point grading system. The tests are evaluated on a pass-fail grading system.

Distinctive features of a study programme:
This is a unique first cycle study programme in Lithuania that prepares professional theatre artists.
During the study process, the integrated teaching model is applied. In addition to the subjects of the main (theatre) field of study, the programme also offers subjects from other fields, such as music, dance, cinema, art, management, pedagogy (Theatre and Event directing); studies of art history and theory are enhanced.
Students are educated by the most famous Lithuanian theatre artists, scientists and professionals in other fields of culture and art, and there is constant cooperation with well-known professional foreign performing arts specialists.
The internationalization of students is also encouraged by providing the opportunity to go on exchange programmes.
Specialization Theatre and Event directing has integrated minor studies of Art Pedagogy.

Access to professional activity:
Graduates are able to work in various Lithuanian theatres and their troupes, institutions of culture, education and entertainment industries, initiate and implement national and international cultural projects, as well as independently express themselves with their creative and artistic professional activities.
Upon completion minor studies of Art Pedagogy and acquisition the qualification of a pedagogue, graduates are able to work as pedagogues in various formal and non-formal and/or specialised educational institutions.

Access to further study:
Those who have completed the first cycle study programme Theatre Art and people who have obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Arts have the right to enter the programmes of the second cycle in the field of theatre as well as other study fields, if this is indicated in the admission requirements of the chosen study programme.
