General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
To prepare a road engineering specialist who is able to plan, organise and carry out road and railway construction, repair and maintenance work, to ensure efficient implementation of work, as well as safety of people and of environment, to prepare projects of land roads and road structures.
Learning outcomes:
Knowledge and its application:
Will be knowledgeable in general environmental sciences and Math regularities and laws, required to understand fundamentals of road engineering. Will know the main concepts in road engineering study field and will understand their content. Will have the main road engineering knowledge that is required for practical work with land road/track structures’ constructions, will be knowledgeable in maintenance principles, building and construction materials. Will know the context of issues in the adjacent study fields and the ways to solve them. Will be able to creatively apply the knowledge of existing methods when solving maintenance and repair issues of railway/road construction, land roads, transport structures.
Will be able to identify railway/road transport structures’ defects, damage, to analyse the reasons for them, to present findings and solutions, to select appropriate methods, experimental and industrial equipment. Will be able to apply analytical and modelling techniques to solve qualitative and quantitative tasks of railway/road engineering. Will be able to apply engineering knowledge to form and carry out design tasks of transport structures and of railway/road in line with the foreseen requirements. Will understand the design methodology and will be able to apply it while designing technological processes in compliance with the requirements of normative technical documents and legal acts.
Competences to carry out research:
Will be able to find proper professional information using information technologies, data bases, software and other scientific and engineering information resources. Will be able to carry out necessary tests for transport structures engineers for solving problems, practical and laboratory works, process their results and present practical conclusions of these results. Will have skills to operate technological equipment used in road engineering.
Specialieji gebėjimai:
Will be able to make engineering decisions and select technological means and equipment needed to design, organize, carry out and control technological process of constructing, maintaining and repairing roads and their structures. Will be able to combine theoretical and applied knowledge in solving traffic safety problems, evaluating business environment, following normative technical documents for construction, normative documents for construction safety and purpose and other legal acts. Will understand the ethical, environmental, economic and business environment of engineering activities. Will understand the principles of organization of engineering activities, know the basic requirements for work and fire safety.
Social skills:
Will be able to solve engineering challenges individually and in a team. Will be able to communicate with the engineering community and the general public.
Personal skills:
Will comprehend the importance of the impact of engineering problems on society and environment, will obey the norms of professional ethics and engineering activities, understand responsibility for the results of engineering activities. Will know the main aspects of project implementation and management on the level of engineering activities. Will comprehend the importance for individual professional development, the importance of lifelong learning and will prepare for it.

Lectures, consultations, practical tasks, individual work, practices of professional activities, individual or team projects, case analysis, study visits.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
The student‘s knowledge, skills and abilities acquired while studying subjects of a study programme are assessed after completing of individual assignments performed during the semester and exam session. The achieved learning outcomes after completion of subject/module studies are assessed attributing them to the levels of achievement: excellent, typical and threshold.

A graduate of the study program will be able to design, plan and organize construction of roads and railways, construction, reconstruction and repair of transport structures, will be able to choose relevant technological solutions and materials, and ensure the quality of the carried out work.
Access to professional activity or further study:
The obtained qualification provides possibilities to independently perform work of personal responsibility individually in the area of civil engineering, leading works of railway and land road construction and reconstruction, preparing road structure projects and technical documentation. With the Professional Bachelor's qualification degree in Road Engineering a person is able to work in Road sector both in state and private enterprises, establish his/her own business, to seek for the higher level of academic education.
