Summary of the Profile
General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
to train qualified, creative, and critically thinking lawyers with comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge of the nature, function and principles of the law, the norms of individual branches of law, who are able to integrate and apply national and international data protection (DP) and cybersecurity legislation in practice to ensure the protection of personal data and the security of digital information in a variety of organizations and business sectors.
Learning outcomes:
1. knows the principles of national constitutional and statutory law, the Lithuanian legal system, the norms of public and private international law and the law of the European Union, and applies the knowledge acquired in the professional activity when solving legal problems;
2. knows the theory of economics, management, history of law, psychology and philosophy, and can apply it in practice;
3. is able to communicate in a professional foreign language;
4. is able to collect information using modern information technologies and databases and to conduct scientific-empirical research using effective methods necessary to solve professional problems in the field of legislation;
5. is able to analyse different legal documents and to evaluate their principles of validity, as well as to identify and to apply the national and international legislation in the field of data protection and cyber security;
6. is able to identify, analyse and resolve a wide range of legal issues relating to data protection in accordance with the requirements of legal professional ethics;
7. is able to integrate data protection principles, including minimising data and ensuring both data retention and the rights of data subjects, into the activities of organisations;
8. is able to critically assess others' and their own activities, knowledge and risks related to data protection, as well as to understand the legal implications and responsibilities associated with data protection violations;
9. is able to express own thoughts fluently both orally and in writing; is able to communicate and collaborate effectively in multicultural groups and to solve legal problems efficiently by applying legal analysis and problem-solving strategies;
10. is able to grow independently in the field of data protection in the legal and technological environment and to apply new ideas in practice, considering changes in legislation and technological developments;
11. is able to plan and organise own activities and apply the principles of ethics and privacy to ensure adequate protection of personal data when processing it.
Teaching and learning activities:
Traditional and (or) an interactive lecture, group discussion, individual group projects, brainstorming, case studies, problem solving, learning from experience, problem-based learning, expert method, concept map, individual problems search, information analysis and synthesis, data interpretation, debate, individual and group practical tasks.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
The summative assessment system is applied. Assessment methods: a test, exam, review, oral presentation, presentation of the integrated project work, internship report, individual oral interview, preparation and presentation of slides, preparation of a written review, report on a case study and its presentation, preparation of a written review on legal matters, presentation of an individual or group work, final thesis.

A student can choose:

● Optional study subjects (6 credits): Negotiation Management, Management of Emotional Intelligence and other subjects from the KK List of Free Electives.
Distinctive features of a study programme:
In addition to developing legal knowledge and skills, the study programme will also provide students with the basic knowledge in economics, psychology, management and IT that is necessary to effectively address the issues of data protection and cyber security. Future professionals will be trained not only in the correct application of the law, but also in the highest ethical principles to ensure data protection. The importance of social responsibility and ethics in the handling of personal data will be emphasised in the programme. The programme will be staffed by professionals from the field of law: practitioners working in various law enforcement agencies, business, state and municipal institutions, and lawyers working in the field of data protection in various organisations. Students will have the opportunity for exchange studies at higher education institutions and for undertaking internships in public or private institutions, companies and organisations abroad; for participation in international projects; for active participation in applied research activities by preparing scientific publications and presentations in various international student conferences.

Lawyers with a Bachelor's degree are trained to work in a wide range of fields such as healthcare, telecommunications, the financial sector where the processing of personal data is an integral part of the organisation's activities, law enforcement institutions, intellectual property, cyber security and other areas. Graduates will be able to pursue careers in private and public sector organisations (particularly in areas related to law) related to IT, intellectual property, commercial and contract law; non-governmental organisations (NGOs); in public institutions; as a lawyer in legal services institutions and law firms; as a lawyer in the field of data protection, data protection officer, data protection lawyer, personal data risk management specialist, etc.
Access to further study:
The graduates will be entitled to a credit transfer system for entering level one of university study programs, to study for a Master’s degree. The continuation of studies is possible in the study programs of the field of law in Lithuanian and/or foreign universities.
