Summary of the Profile

General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
To train social workers capable of analysing and solving social problems, providing assistance to individuals and groups, and promoting social integration and well-being in society.

Learning outcomes:
1. Knows the theories of social work, the importance of social work in the development of social well-being, human and environmental sustainability;
2. Applies social work knowledge in a manner consistent with professional ethics and Christian principles;
3. Knows and applies the specifics of parish community mobilization and the activities of nongovernmental organizations.
4. Knows and applies legislation and normative documents.
5. Conducts applied social research necessary to clarify the needs of individuals, families and communities.
6. Gathers and organises information, works with confidential information, uses IT technologies.
7. Applies social work methods in working with individuals, groups, families, communities and non-governmental organisations.
8. Develops a programme/project to address specific professional problems and applies innovations in working practice.
9. Addresses individual/family and community social problems based on the unity of social work theory and practice, applying methodologies for empowering diverse client groups.
10. Proficiently organises and delivers social work services in communities and nongovernmental organisations to bring about positive change in society.
11. Constructively communicates and collaborates in Lithuanian and foreign languages in professional activities.
12. Takes responsibility for personal growth and professional development in accordance with Christian values.

Activities of teaching and learning:
The study period is 3 years (6 semesters). The subjects are evenly distributed in each semester (6-7 subjects in each semester). Examinations are spread evenly throughout the semesters. The final thesis is submitted and defended in semester VI. The programme includes 3 internships
(Cognitive Internship, Personal/Family Social Well-being Internship, Community Lifestyle Internship) and free electives. The social work study programme provides for the use of a variety of forms (lectures, exercises, seminars, excursions, etc.) and methods (demonstrations, discussions, group work, project work, case studies, tests, etc.) to enable students to achieve the study outcomes.

Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Students' achievements are evaluated on a ten-point system in accordance with the approved Procedures for the Evaluation of Student Achievements. A summative (cumulative) assessment system shall be used for student reports. The assessment of study results is based on SP + CP + EP, where SP = independent work grade (20 % of the final grade); CP = average of grades in control assignments (20 % of the final grade); EP = examination grade (60 % of the final grade).

Distinctive features of a study programme:
The study program is focused on a specific area of social activity - social work in the community, especially parish work, therefore the basis of the program is the development of the
values of social Christian work and volunteerism in the community, which are based on the social teaching of the Church. The program highlights the importance of social work in the third sector, emphasizes the citizenship of volunteering and the managerial aspects of social work.

Access to professional activity:
Graduates of social work can work in a variety of fields, including social welfare institutions, such as social service centres, care homes and day care centres. They can also find employment in educational institutions, including schools, kindergartens and special education centres. Health care and rehabilitation institutions, such as hospitals, polyclinics and psychosocial ehabilitation centres, are also important areas of their professional activity. Graduates can also work in law enforcement and probation services, such as prisons, youth correctional facilities and probation centres. Nongovernmental organisations and community initiatives also offer a
variety of employment opportunities. Social workers can also work in the private sector, providing social services and working in the field of social policy-making. They specialise in
providing assistance to individuals and families, communities, coordinating social services, administering social projects and implementing them.

Social Work graduates can continue their studies in the following areas:
Master's degree - you can enroll in master's degree programs in social work, theology, psychology or other social sciences in Lithuania or abroad.
Doctoral degree - after master's studies, you can pursue a doctoral degree in the fields of social sciences, theology or education
