General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
The aim of the professional bachelor studies is to prepare a creative and socially responsible personality, who has formed his/her own original specific artistic vision and who is able to independently develop a professional solo and/or collective artistic activity as a performer of popular music in the context of the national and international traditions of popular music as well as the current trends in the cultural and creative industries.
Learning outcomes:
Graduates will be able to:
- Collect, analyse and interpret information relevant to their professional activity and its environment in a reasoned manner;
- Apply the principles of self-management, independently and purposefully plan and execute professional activities in accordance with legal norms;
- Adapt to changing circumstances and manage stress by using imagination, intuition, emotional intelligence or other psychological adaptation tools;
- Analyse and evaluate popular music phenomena in the context of regional and world cultures, and know the basics of music theory;
- Critically evaluate the quality of one's own musical activity in the development of personal repertoire and in the practical implementation of creative projects;
- Find the necessary information, use traditional and modern sources of information and use them in creative practice;
- Present creative ideas to stakeholders in a fluent and logical manner, following general communication principles, and communicate with audiences of different ages and needs;
- Work productively, collaboratively, responsibly and safely in diverse teams on musical or interdisciplinary projects;
- Know and use musical notation well, and perform musical elements or pieces from notes, ear, memory;
- Independently analyse and distinguish between the essential elements of popular music language, forms, performance traditions, styles and genres;
- Independently learn, memorise, rehearse, and put ideas into practice through the creative use of existing knowledge and the effective and safe use of technical tools and/or software;
- Create and realise an individual musical concept on a chosen instrument/voice;
- Interact with other performers as a soloist and/or ensemble member, depending on the role of the chosen instrument in the ensemble;
- Demonstrate practical knowledge of popular music styles and genres, developing the performer's activity in changing circumstances.

Students have the opportunity to choose a variety of popular music instruments - guitar, b. guitar, piano, percussion, saxophone, trombone, flute, tuba, double bass, trumpet, violin, vocals, vibraphone, electronic music.
Students can choose from LPDs offered by all 10 faculties of the College.
Distinctive features of a study programme:
The study programme in Popular Music at Vilnius College is the only one of its kind in Lithuania. The programme offers students the opportunity to choose a variety of popular music instruments - strings, wind instruments, keyboards, percussion, electronic music or vocals.

Access to professional activity:
Graduates work in the music industry, in popular and jazz music ensembles or solo projects; as individual freelance artists/musicians, which includes recording, composing, arranging and performing music.
Access to further study:
Students have the opportunity to continue their studies at various Lithuanian or foreign higher education institutions.
