Summary of the Profile

General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
To prepare a specialist who is able to design clothing, knows processes of handling and cutting the fabrics, the design of technological sewing flows and work organization, who has common abilities that help to adapt to the changing environment conditions and labor market requirements.
Learning outcomes:
1. Knowledge and understanding of basics of natural, physical, social and technological sciences, understanding of the key aspects and concepts of clothing technology and theoretical basics and ability to apply them in decision making in professional activity.
2. Understanding of the information about fashion trends, ability to analyse a sketch or a sample of a clothing item, identify the ratio between an item and a person.
3. Knowledge and understanding of the key aspects and concepts of clothing article materials selection, product design, designing, construction, production and maintenance technology and process organisation.
4. Knowledge and understanding of the materials used in clothing production, their characteristics and processing peculiarities.
5. Knowledge and understanding of key characteristics the principles of organisation of clothing production flows.
6. Ability to apply their knowledge and understanding in defining, formulating and solving technological problems of clothing product development and production by using familiar methods.
7. Ability to analyse and design constructive-technical documentation of a model and select proper materials, methods and technological equipment.
8. Ability to evaluate, select and apply appropriate production design, constructing and modelling methods of clothing.
9. Ability to analyse processing technologies of clothing products and to design a rational sequence of a product technological processing.
10. Ability to design technological flows of clothing manufacturing.
11. Ability to monitor and control technological processes of cutting, finishing and sewing, as well as their quality.
12. Ability to plan, manage and evaluate clothing manufacturing processes, apply the principles of work organisation in line with the legal, work safety and environmental, ethical and commercial principles.
13. Ability to find appropriate professional information in databases and other scientific and technological information sources.
14. Ability to conduct necessary technological experiments, interpret data and draw conclusions regarding the characteristics of the materials used in clothing manufacturing, the influence of the selected equipment on the end quality of a product.
15. Ability to adapt to constant changes in professional activity, communicate business likely with the professionals of own area, by conveying study experience and acquired knowledge in clothing technology.
16. Ability to take responsibility for effects of technological solutions on the public and environment, compliance with the rules of professional ethics and public spirit.
17. Ability to function effectively as individual and as a member of a team by contributing to the work or result.
18. Ability to communicate in writing and orally in the native and foreign language with the engineering and technology community and society at large.
19. Understanding of ethical, standard and social norms, related to professional performance, and the ability to take responsibility for own actions in achievement of life and professional career coherency.
20. Knowledge of the limits of own competence, ability to receive criticism, understanding of the importance of individual improvement for individual professional excellence.
• Sewing Design and Special Technology.
1. Ability to foresee the specific character of the development and designing of new clothing products, recycling opportunities and quality assurance.
2. Knowledge and ability to apply it specific joint technologies of clothing products and original technological solutions.
3. Ability to design a product in line with custom requirements by applying various composition and illustration techniques.
4. Ability to apply fashion trends and technological innovations to design new clothing collections.
Organization of Clothing Production and Business:
1. Ability to organize the processes of clothing manufacturing service supply with reference to activity effectiveness and quality.
2. Ability to organize preparation, cutting, sewing and final finishing processes in creating and designing original clothing.
Activities of teaching and learning:
In the study process are applied various teaching and learning methods and the virtualization of study process as well. The student- centered teaching and learning oriented towards self- independent work, reasoned by tasks, a group work where Problem Based Learning takes a very important role.
In the programme is designed to reach an active students’ participation in the study process, a creation of educative environment applying such methods like and interactive lecture, discussions, a practical work, case studies, study of scientific literature and other informational references, solutions of problem based situations.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
The study results are assessed at the level of achievement of studies and in the tenth grade of the criteria evaluation system according to the Utena College's study results assessment procedure in 2017, which can be found on web page:

The most common form of assessment in the College is an exam or project, depending on the results of the study programme. The final evaluation of a subject is a cumulative score

Access to professional activity:
Graduates will be able to work, in these areas: clothing design, handling and cutting materials/fabrics, organization of technological sewing processes; the design of technological sewing flows.
Access to further study:
Graduates will be able to continue their bachelor's degree studies at a university. After completing supplementary studies or fulfilling other requirements set by the higher education institution, they will have the right to enter the second cycle master studies and the third cycle doctoral studies.
