General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:

To provide integrated theoretical knowledge and practical skills, leadership and system thinking abilities, and to prepare graduates for an international career in the management of organisations in the agriculture and food industry.

Activities of teaching and learning:

Lectures and exercises; study of scientific literature; debates and mind-mapping; problem solving during exercises; discussions during assignments; development of insights and scenarios for agri-food business development on the basis of the defined conditions; independent work and group work (problem solving and project design and development of strategies and planning of marketing measures); presentation of the results of the research in workshops; group work on tasks; situation analysis; modelling of complex agribusiness situations; study tours to agribusinesses; practical work focused on secondary data collection and analysis; collection and processing of primary data using Ms Excel/ SPSS; interpretation and presentation of data in seminars, carrying out scientific research and preparing and publicly defending a master's thesis.

Discussion focused on providing feedback on the data analysis; Examination - evaluation of the correctness of the test tasks or written answers to open-ended questions and their oral explanation; evaluation of a problem-based tasks (strategy, innovation project, marketing plan, etc.) and assessment of the completeness of the assignment and the quality of its public presentation and defence; assessment of the performance in the exercises and the solution of the exercises and homework assignment; discussion focused on providing feedback on the individual practical analysis of the assignment, which contributes to a better understanding of the various problems in the agri-food sector and to the assessment of the potential for the development of new products/markets/segments etc.

programme:

The International joint master study programme Agri-Food Business Management is designed to train professionals capable of working in agriculture and food supply chain related fields, to provide graduates with integrated theoretical knowledge and practical skills, and to strengthen leadership skills and systems thinking abilities, with the ultimate aim of preparing graduates for an international career in agriculture and food supply chain organisations, research and public management. Students will acquire the general knowledge and specific skills to analyse and critically evaluate the behaviour and business environment of agri-food business entities, to develop and implement business plans, to forecast and evaluate business processes and performance, to analyse, evaluate, economically and financially justify alternatives for strategic business decisions, to organise and develop agri-food businesses, to initiate and innovate, and to analyse and forecast the situation of potential markets, from the local to the global scale.

Graduates will be able to set up their own businesses and farms, become managers of agricultural cooperatives, international agribusiness associations, public administration institutions (Ministry of Agriculture departments, municipal agriculture and rural development departments, agencies providing financial support for agriculture, business and rural development, local government and consultancy institutions, research institutions), and companies involved in the food chain, as well as to work as managers, economists, business analysts and consultants.

Graduates will be welcome to continue their studies at doctoral level in economics and management.
