Summary of the Profile

General Description:

Objective(s) of a study programme:

To train performance-oriented middle chain managers, able to take initiative, promote creativity and initiative of their subordinates, and having the knowledge and skills in the application of the latest theories and methods of management and analysis of organisational processes, which enable the graduates to plan, organise, and control the activities of the units of the Lithuanian Armed Forces and the units of other institutions that are part of the Armed Forces in peace, crisis, and war.

Learning outcomes:

Knowledge and its application

Graduates are aware of and able to apply the latest management theories by selecting decision-making and implementation methods and tools depending on the circumstances, and are able to communicate the specifics of the application of the method to their subordinates; they are aware of the political and legal contexts in which armed forces are operating at the national, NATO, and global levels.

Ability to conduct research

Graduates of the study programme are able to conduct social research by applying qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-access methods, develop research methodologies for applied research in the defence sector, and assess the validity of defence research.

Special skills

Ability to plan, implement, and control organisational processes in peace, crisis, and war.

Social skills

Ability to implement innovative solutions and empower subordinates to take the initiative in addressing challenges within the organisation.

Personal skills

Ability to take initiative and lead the team under conditions of high uncertainty.

Activities of teaching and learning:

The study programme is based on student-centred learning and teaching and research-based teaching. Lectures and other class activities are focused on active learning methods (discussions, mind mapping, presentations, solve problems, surveys, paper works), are used audio visual material, maps, statistical data, group work method is often used.

Methods of assessment of learning achievements:

The evaluation of the results of the study involves: tests, closed and open-type questionnaires, written assignments, presentations, essays, problem-solving tasks, project preparation, Master‘s Thesis defense.

The study program consists of 90 ECTS (10 study subjects), the program is carried out 4 semesters, the duration of the program is 2 years. The subjects of the study field comprise 70 ECTS. Additionally, 20 ECTS are allocated for the Master's thesis.

Distinctive features of a study programme:

The programme is aimed at developing officers' managerial competences to complement the skills acquired during military training with research work, critical thinking and leadership competences.

Access to professional activity:

Only acting officers or civil servants are applicable. The program was developed in close cooperation with MoD to advance the its goals and be beneficial in the careers of students.

Access to further study:

The graduates are eligible for PhD studies in Lithuanian and foreign universities.
