Summary of the Profile

General Description:
Objective(s) of the study programme:
To prepare a qualified IT specialist, able to programme a selected programming language, to develop databases, successfully adapting to the rapidly changing information technologies in the market and developing ability of lifelong learning.
Learning outcomes:
1. Will be able to apply programming, testing knowledge in an integrated manner during the development of software.
2. Will be able to collect and analyze data, necessary during software development, adapting them to the solution of professional problems.
3. Will be able to develop a programming code in accordance with the prepared technical task.
4. Will be able to constantly test the developed programming code.
5. Will be able to design and develop databases.
6. Will be able to document and manage versions of programming code.
7. Will be able to work individually and in a project team effectively communicating in both Lithuanian and English, to follow the principles of professional ethics and social responsibility.
8. Will be able to update constantly changing knowledge of information sciences through lifelong learning, to take personal responsibility for the results of one’s professional activity
Activities of teaching and learning:
Preparation of projects, lab works, problem solving, reasoning, presentations, problem-based learning, project works, group works, outbound visits, role-play games, team member assessment.
Methods of assessment of learning
achievements:
Cumulative evaluation and a 10-grade evaluation system are used. In cumulative assessment the study outcomes are comprised of intermediate evaluations. The programmes of study subjects contain concrete structural elements used in evaluating study outcomes, their weight in the final evaluation, content, criteria and requirements of concrete tasks to be evaluated. Each subject is completed by an exam and student‘s independent work (project) that are evaluated. The final grade is comprised of the composite parts (e.g. intermediate evaluations, independent work, exam) of the cumulative evaluation that are indicated in the programme of the subject, the percentage of which is determined in the programme of the study subject.

training:
80 credits are allocated to the course units of the field. The following course units of the field are studied: Professional Foreign Language, Applied Mathematics and Statistics, Basics of Programming and Data Structures, Computer Architecture and Operating Systems, Databases, Basics of Software, System Design and Testing, Databases, Online System Programming, Python Programming, Java Programming, Human-Computer Interaction, System Development and Testing/Programme System Engineering, IT Project Management/IT Project Management (in English), Applied Project.
8 credits must be selected in the group of course units of the field from such alternative course units: System Design and Testing/Programme System Engineering, IT Project Management/ IT Project Management (in English).
30 credits (800 ac. hrs.) are allocated to Professional Activity Internships, 10 credits – to optional studies, 5 credits – to applied project

Optional courses:
Students will have a possibility to choose course units from 4 alternatives, aimed at deepening knowledge of the study field. Students will cumulate 8 credits. Students will be able to choose from the following course units of the field: System Design and Testing/Programme System Engineering, IT Project Management/ IT Project Management (in English).

The acquired knowledge and practical skills will provide graduates with possibilities to integrate themselves in the labour market, to work as programmers in business companies of the sector of information and communication technologies, information technology departments of organizations in other sectors.

Access to further study:
After graduating from the short studies programme Programming, a student will have a right to continue studies in accordance with the programmes of the first cycle and integrated studies.
