General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
Prepare veterinary specialist, having professional qualification of veterinary small animal therapist, having sufficient experience to diagnose and treat different types of small animals, capable to apply the acquired knowledge, skills and abilities in practical work, rationally applying modern diagnostic and treatment methods, capable of functioning in extreme conditions in case of urgency.
Learning outcomes:
To be able to carry out a general animal clinical study to identify clinical satus and assess its level of difficulty; to create the necessary diagnostic tests plan; to be able to interpret the results of the primary (medical history, clinical examination) and secondary (interpretation of the results and the planning, carrying out and interpreting additional results ) surveys; to determine the animal's symptoms causes differential diagnosis; provide an appropriate individual animal treatment plan and discuss it with the owner of the animals; to be able to evaluate possible drug interactions and possible side effects, and the effectiveness of the prescribed treatment.
To be able to recognize medical emergency requiring states to provide first aid, according to the current guidelines; to provide initial trauma; to be able to provide emergency assistance and to treat animals requiring emergency.
To be able to take material for morphological, biochemical, microbiological, coprological, toxicological, or other diagnostic tests.
To be able to perform biological fluids morphological, biochemical, immunological and other materials coprologicall, microbiological investigations peculiarities; to be able to evaluate and analyze the results.
Apply modern animal noninfectious diseases diagnostic and treatment methods.
Prepare and defend papers, residency thesis, prepare publications.
Activities of teaching and learning:
Apply various teaching and learning methods: lectures, seminars, group discussions with resident doctors, clinics work with patients. Daily activities Journal refill, the thesis preparation and defense of the settlement commission.
Abilities and skills acquired through clinical examination and treatment of patients, providing emergency aid. Preventive measures knowledge and application of knowledge. Hospital treatment of patients in intensive care during the night duty. Working with the resident doctors and doctors / professors therapists examine different non-infectious diseases.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Participation in the theoretical lectures, seminars and group activity discussions. The thesis topic can offer the resident himself or a resident manager. Preliminary scientific subject, the subject matter and methods are discussed and approved in the beginning of resident studies. Thesis defended in qualification commission meeting.

The program consists of mandatory and optional cycles, covering theory, practical work and self-employment.
Mandatory cycles focused on small animal veterinarian therapist's clinical knowledge and skills deepening of non-infectious diseases diagnostic and treatment areas for each species. Veterinary non-infectious diseases clinical diagnostic, medical and therapeutic treatment and prevention knowledge, abilities and skills, and the uptake of knowledge in practical work. Veterinarian of small animal therapist practical work can work in both public and private institutions which have a license to provide animal care and treatment services. Veterinary doctor's license gives the State Food and Veterinary Service, on submisssion of a veterinary medicine degree diploma. Also, small animal veterinarian therapist can work in a scientific-research and educational work in higher education institutions, to build their own business.
