General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
1. To train a highly qualified art teacher who shall possess a system of the latest and specialized knowledge of the arts and the science of education (including artistic education) and who shall be able to professionally do different work of art educator based on the analysis of activity, oriented towards educational innovations, and supported by creative solutions.
2. To train specialists able to conduct research in the fields of artistic education and to apply its results to the improvement of the processes of artistic education.
3. To train teachers of art characterized by artistic competences and able to ensure dissemination of artistic-cultural activity.
Learning outcomes:
Knowledge and its application:
1. The possession of fundamental knowledge of the science of education and the arts necessary for exhaustive and versatile cognition of the process of artistic education and innovative and creative activity based on it.
2. The ability to apply the latest knowledge of the arts and the processes of artistic education to the conducting of research and professional activity.
Research abilities:
1. The ability to identify and raise research problems relevant for artistic education in Lithuania and for personal practices, as well as to analyse and assess the research data relevant for professional activity.
2. The ability to independently prepare and implement research in artistic education and to analyse and interpret its outcomes.
3. The ability to apply the knowledge generated by means of independent applied research to the practice of artistic education and to assess their impact on the environment.
Special abilities:
1. The ability to apply the possessed knowledge and, on its basis, to critically analyse and assess new ideas and the effectiveness of the processes of artistic education.
2. The ability to identify the need for changes, to generate ideas, and to independently design and improve the process of artistic education.
3. The ability to create and implement original programmes of artistic education and new measures for the implementation of cultural or artistic activity or for the inculcation of innovations.
4. The ability to manage one‘s own and (or) pupils‘ processes of artistic activity and to ensure the dissemination of musical – cultural activity.
Social abilities:
1. The ability to independently develop the possessed, and to acquire new, competences by assessing the requirements set by the changes in the professional activity and personal interests.
2. The ability of creative problem solution and taking innovative decisions based on the acquired knowledge and research outcomes.
3. The ability to make an impact on the inculcation of innovations in the artistic life of the school and the region by being proactive, communicative, and a good partner.
Personal abilities:
1. The ability to work in a group and act as a leader of others and to take responsibility for the quality of one‘s own and the team performance and its improvement.
2. The ability to convey the possessed knowledge in a clear, logical, and purposeful way to specialist and general audiences.
3. Respect for, and fostering of, the social, cultural, ethnic, and civic identity of the participants of the education process and the understanding of one‘s own moral responsibility for the impact of one‘s activity and its outcomes.

Activities of teaching and learning:
The courses of the theory unit are usually taught by means of oral, visual-demonstrational, and reflective-practical methods. The feedback and achievement assessment are ensured by written assignments, presentations of the sources of scientific literature, and creative individual and group projects. Practical skills are developed by means of practice, problem solution, practical assignments, and other methods. The majority of study methods encourage active and independent student‘s work: discussion, search for literature, practice, mind mapping, case study, work in groups, reflection on activity, etc. Lately, the reflective study methods have been paid special attention to, i.e. students have been encouraged to assess the study process and themselves, to identify their own strengths and weaknesses, and to name the arising learning problems.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Study outcomes shall be assessed on the basis of the principles of validity, reliability, clarity, and usefulness. A ten-point scale and a cumulative system of assessment are applied. The independent work assignments over the semester are graded, and during the exam session, the final grade is derived. The cumulative structure of the grade ensure more universal and objective assessment of student achievements.

Optional courses:
The Elective of Specialism (voice, conducting, piano, etc.) is selected by students, given the course of music performing taken in the 1st cycle studies and personal aspirations of the improvement of music performing abilities. Both the abilities of music performing are developed and the competences of the dissemination of musical-cultural activity based on musical expression are formed (the management of the processes of musical activity, creating of concert programmes, etc.). Students mostly select a course of specialism related to the theme of the Master‘s final thesis. Thus, e. g., if the thesis deals with the issue of vocal training, student will choose either Conducting or Voice. Master students not only deepen their musical abilities, but also, in collaboration with their teachers, analyse specific fields of musical expression in their Master‘s final theses.

The MP master study programme is characterized by strong potential of teachers and by professional staff-teachers of the courses in the field of education, collaboration with social partners, the insolvent of students to the context of the field Music pedagogy, the variety of international activities.

Access to professional activity:
The graduates can work as teachers at universities and colleges, as teachers of art subjects or leaders of schoolchildren‘s artistic groups in gymnasia, in comprehensive and art schools, in pre-school educational institutions, as well as to initiate private activity of art teaching, and they can participate in project activity and research.
Access to further study:
The graduates of the study programme of Art Pedagogy are granted the right to continue in the 3rd cycle study programmes in the field of Educology.
