Summary of the Profile

Objective(s) of a study programme:

To prepare international politics and international economics specialists capable of competent research, analysis, critical assessment and forecast of political and economic processes in Asia, independent investigation, preparation of recommendations and simulation of possible consequences of their decisions on issues related to international relations and international economy on the national, regional, and global levels and manifesting competitiveness in pursuit of career in the private sector working with Asian countries or national and international institutions related to the spheres of international policy and international economy.
Learning outcomes:

1. To form the students’ study skills and scientific research abilities:
1.1. Is able to analyse and shape theoretical models, conduct scientific research, draft solution plans and frame recommendations on the issues of international relations and economics revealing the economic means that world superpowers employ in their pursuit of political objectives and vice versa;
1.2. Is able to justify and shape theoretical models as well as appropriately select theories, conceptions and scientifically justified analysis paradigms applied in the inquiry into peculiarities of Asian countries and sub/regions;
1.3. Is able to analyse, research, and critically assess political and economic phenomena on the global, regional, and local basis.
2. To form the students’ knowledge, communicative, cooperating, consulting and decision making skills and competences: a) analyse and critically assess political as well as economic process in Asian regions and countries; b) have influence shaping the politics of foreign and international economy on the national, European and global levels; c) simulate possible consequences of their decisions on issues related to international relations and international economics on the national, regional, and global levels:
2.1. Is familiar with the structure of global economy and market, their dynamics, key international institutions and international legislation providing for the resolutions of international political and economic conflicts;
2.2. Is able to conduct applied and scientific investigation analysing political and economic systems of Asian countries on the basis of contemporary political and economic theories and research;
2.3. Is able to analyse and investigate solution making processes in Asia, Europe and Lithuania as well as critically assess trends of political and economic integration in Asia and Europe and their impact on Lithuania;
2.4. On the basis of research and practice is able to influence shaping the politics of foreign and international economy on the national and European levels by proposing rational inquiries and inspections tackling economic and political problems in Asia, Europe, and Lithuania;
2.5. Is able to provide recommendations and proposals on the issues of international politics and economics based on the analysis of political, social, economic and cultural processes in Asian countries and regions both in the private and public sectors;
2.6. Is able to communicate the issues of international politics and economics individually and within target groups employing various means of oral and written communication in native and foreign languages as part of professional and social activities.
3. To form the students entrepreneurial skills and competence: a) have the ability to forecast the development of politics in Asian countries, draft proposals and recommendations on the issues of international relations and international economics b) become entrepreneurial and innovative in establishing various contacts with representatives of Asian business and politics:
3.1. Is familiar with and able to critically assess possibilities of political, economic, social and cultural relations between subjects representing different civilizations, has relevant historic and cultural knowledge of Asian regions and is able to implement them in practice, i.e. working in multicultural environment, communicating and co-operating with representatives of the region;
3.2. Is able to provide consultations, pursue expert activity related to the issues of international relations and international economics and make contacts with representatives of Asian business and politics of Asian countries;
3.3. Is able to frame projects based on EU and Lithuanian strategic documents related to Asian countries.
Activities of teaching and learning:

The teaching and learning process is organized in lectures, seminars, and independent studies (research work, individual assignments, project activities, essay writing, presentations and e-learning in Moodle environment).
Innovative teaching / learning methods are applied in the course of the study process: research methods (search for information sources, analysis, comparison, qualitative and quantitative research); problem-oriented teaching/learning methods; method of critical thinking; learning through interaction, individual and group oriented independent study (based on tasks), discussions; deliberation; debates (based on knowledge and insight); case studies; Delphi method; decision-tree (developing problem solving skills); simulation (assumption-based, comparative, and graphic); project method; individual tutorials.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Students’ achievements are assessed using the 10-point grading scale on the basis of the criteria, methods, and procedures presented in Mykolas Romeris University Study Rules and Regulations. The programme of studies is concluded with the procedure of public defence of the final Master thesis.
Assessment methods: questioning (frontal and individual); individual / group presentations; colloquium; project activities; written papers; submission of papers / reports / models / ex-ante and ex-post analyses / projects in written form and their oral presentation; learning achievements’ portfolio; real-life situation simulation test; oral or written examination (integrated test for control of theoretical and practical knowledge).

Distinctive features of a study programme:
This is the first study programme in Lithuania integrating the dimensions of international politics and international economics. Hence the subjects attributable to the compulsory course (making up 40 percent of the programme) will be lectured by specialists representing both political and economic sciences. This is an interdisciplinary programme comprising several scientific spheres and requiring for the development of competences in several directions, i.e. the leading direction of political sciences is combined with studies of economics, law, history, sociology and foreign languages. Students will be entitled to choose one of the following foreign languages: Japanese, Chinese, Russian or Turkish. Language knowledge will ensure competitiveness of the graduates in both national and international labour market.
