General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
To prepare constantly self-educating experts in international security and diplomacy who can analyze and critically evaluate international security processes and conflicts, applying different theoretical perspectives and research methodologies on international relations and conflicts studies while offering adequate solutions to the existing challenges.
Learning outcomes:
Knowledge and its application
Graduates can identify the causes of international conflicts and international security challenges, their geopolitical, historical and economic context, processes, classical and contemporary theories of international relations, war and conflict, diplomacy and international law.
Capacity to conduct research
Graduates can conduct research independently (prepare a master's thesis and other research) in the field of international security and conflict, applying various theoretical approaches, using qualitative and quantitative research methods, assessing the reliability of their application and limitations of interpretation, providing balanced recommendations, evaluating their consequences.
Special abilities
Graduates can provide critical assessments of security, conflict, and diplomatic processes at the national, regional, and global levels, complemented by individual or group research and publications in international discourse.
Social skills
Graduates can present conducted research (individually or in groups) to members of the Lithuanian and foreign academic community or by participating in public discussions in accordance with professional ethics and citizenship.

· Graduates can critically and argumentatively evaluate the latest research results, reflecting them in their research and further develop their research competencies.
· Graduates can present innovative solutions in their field of activity by evaluating the available data, in the interests of the state and its allies, international law and realizing moral responsibility for its actions, assessing the consequences of decisions for society, the state and the international environment.
Activities of teaching and learning:
The program is focused on student-centered studies basing on research-based teaching. Through lectures, discussions, seminars and self-study, students explore international security challenges, conflicts, their regulation, the impact of international law and the actions of international actors focusing on case studies, audiovisual material, maps, statistical datasets, group work, providing alternatives, analyzing the scientific literature, by writing various papers and a master thesis.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Students’ achievements are assessed through written exams, written assignments, case studies, problem solving, presentations, simulations, a master's thesis pilot study, and a master thesis.

The study program consists of 120 ECTS (16 study subjects), the program is carried out 4 semesters, the duration of the program is 2 years. The subjects of the study field comprise 90 ECTS. Additionally, 30 ECTS are allocated for the Master's thesis.

Distinctive features of a study programme:
The military diplomacy study program differs from other master’s degree programs offered at Lithuanian universities in that it is clearly focused on the analysis of challenges to international security, military conflicts and their regulation, with the help of international law, diplomatic instruments and various international actors. This program provides skills that are crucial in ensuring and strengthening cooperation between Lithuania and the Allies and provides analytical skills essential for the service in the National Defense System or working in state institutions. Only officers and employees serving or working in the National Defense System are eligible to study in the program. Study materials are often the result of projects supporting studies, i.e. study materials are prepared on the basis of research conducted by academic staff.

Access to professional activity:
Graduates of military diplomacy serve or work in the National Defense System, can work in various state institutions and diplomatic service, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, private business sector, analytical centers, everywhere where analytical, communication, strategy and policy planning skills are required, to be employed as analysts and consultants.
Access to further study:
The graduates are eligible for PhD studies in Lithuanian and foreign universities.
