C2 Ability to prepare and offer scientifically-based, targeted and competitive civil engineering decisions.
Investigations:
D1 Ability to find, analyse, and organise the necessary data through databases, sources of information, observations and measurements, critically evaluate and draw conclusions.
D2 Ability to plan and carry out the analytical, modelling and experimental research and ability to critically evaluate their data and interpret the results obtained.
D3 Ability to identify methods, ways and means of application and the limits of their application by performing the applied research of civil engineering.
Engineering Practice:
E1 Ability to connect into one whole the knowledge of different study fields and solve multiple problems of engineering.
E2 Ability to initiate and carry out the design projects of modernisation of buildings and their constructions and choose appropriate methods, software and hardware.
E3 Ability to describe the ethical and environmental protection requirements and evaluation of civil engineering activities regarding work safety and environmental aspects;
Engineering Practice:
F1 Ability to independently schedule the research process, select the direction of self-improvement and continue education.
F2 Ability to clearly and reasonably provide summarised, personal/scientific and civil engineering experience and knowledge to specialists and the general public.
F3 Ability to communicate and collaborate with specialists of other professions and businesses and assume personal responsibility for the engineering team and the quality of operation.
F4 Ability to describe the project management and business aspects, to understand the technological and design solutions in touch with their economic consequences.

Activities of teaching and learning:
Study programme teaching/learning process is conducted by using study forms and methods, accentuating the development of operational skills and competences. Applied teaching/learning methods: lectures, practical works, seminars, laboratory works, individual work tasks, discussions, group projects, working visits, practical assignments, lectures of visiting professors, problem solving sessions, design (project works preparation and visualisation). Individual work hours are allocated for performance of individual tasks, preparation of semester projects, case analysis, reference and supplementary literature studies, for development of special software packages application skills, search of information and task solution, preparation to defend practical and laboratory works and for preparation for examinations. The study programme finishes with a Master's final project.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Student's knowledge, abilities and skills acquired by studying the module during the semester are evaluated and are recorded into databases twice: an assessment of the semester work tasks (positive or negative evaluation) and an assessment during the exam session (in ten-grade scale).
Framework:
Study subjects (modules), practical training:
Futures masters studying: Optimization Theory of Construction Solutions, Computer-Aided Design and Optimization of Structures, Research of reliability and strengthening of building structures, Durability and Life Cycle of the Structure and others modules. Total are 12 subjects. Practice is not provided in the study programme.
Specialisations:
-
Optional courses:
Is possibility to two choices for students to develop a special competencies. Specialised competences (Deepening study modules (Expert competence)) correspond to the deepening study modules aimed at gaining the expert competence. (12 credits).
Distinctive features of a study programme:
The study programme of the second cycle of the Civil Engineering is designed to prepare civil engineering masters with knowledge sufficient to develop distinctive and autonomous scientific ideas and apply them, who will be familiar with the latest scientific theories, methods and technologies in the civil engineering field; who will be skilled in application of the acquired knowledge and understanding about modern methods in practical activities, which require analytical skills, innovation and integrated knowledge, including research, who will know the range of application of the analytical methods, will be able to assess the research results and establish their credibility; who will be able to address the problems in the new, unknown and permanently changing environment and broad contexts (interdisciplinary) connected with the civil engineering; who will be able to continue independent learning, recognise and critically evaluate the field, theoretical and practical novelties of previously studied cognition or development, efficiently operate in certain circumstances when detailed information and instructions are not available, base the made conclusions and present them properly to the concerned persons of varying background, perceive ethical and social consequences of own knowledge and effects of made decisions and responsibility for them. This study programme is preparing experts of construction.
