General Description:
Objective(s) of a study programme:
The overall objectives of the programme is to provide students with opportunities to enable by the end of the successful studies:
Ground their studies on realities of the border guard community and on rigorous academic practices, and therefore to learn to carry out applied research, which enables further the developments in the field of border guard, and also has practical implications for the MS/SAC border guard organisations (that are the ultimate beneficiary) and which enables further academic developments of the field and the formulations of prospective research fields.
Perform as highly competent professionals in the field, who be able to provide both monitoring of realities and insights into future developments in the profession.
Provide sound, reasonable, theories and research based arguments for maintaining or changing practice and research orientations in the profession across the EU
Demonstrate behaviour of a role model as of a professional, and as a responsible and reliable person, who is able to communicate and to collaborate locally, nationally and internationally with great respect to human rights, with intercultural sensitivity, citizen’s responsibility and dignity.
Learning outcomes:
By the end of the studies, a graduate will have acquired:
a competence a broad range of EU and international legislation, policies and procedures regarding cross border management and international cooperation;
a competence for critical evaluation of organisational development potential in the context of Border Guard quality management principles;
a critical awareness of the European context of border security at a strategic level;
competence to apply professional and research skills, drawing from an extensive critical analysis of related information/data to make evidence based recommendations in order to enhance Border Guard management in a European Context;
competence to work effectively & independently, and in collaboration with members with responsibility for Border Guard management from other states;
competence to employ appropriate tools and techniques to manage all resources, maximizing utilisation, whilst balancing Border Guard management organizational;
competence to harmonise goals with national, European and international stakeholder expectations;
competence to continuously engage in learning opportunities and promote professional development across the organisation.
Activities of teaching and learning:
Student cantered approach will be used, especially, opportunities for blended learning will be employed (the virtual learning environment, run by FRONTEX, which will enable effective consultations) will be used extensively; critical analysis, critical case analysis, harmony between practical assignments and theorising, using research methods, reports, peer evaluation (in some course-units), presentations, group work will be used. Master thesis/dissertation (theoretical and empirical elements) will be carried out by students under the supervision of international team of researchers. The study methods used are presented in detail in the description of course-units.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
The methods for assessment are enlisted in details in the description of individual course modules. However, among the most often used: exam in written form (test of closed and open type question); report, presentation, master thesis/dissertation and its open defence)
